This program far exceeded our expectations. The instructor is extremely knowledgeable about the Civil War. The leaders were very attentive to our needs.

The week given to the siege of Vicksburg was outstanding. Parker Hills authoritatively discussed battle strategy, command decisions and political ramifications based on his military career. He appreciatively discussed architecture and the artistry of monuments and statues in the memorial park based on his academic training in art. There was not a question posed that did not get a full explanation. Parker even said that most of his answers were true! Carol Hills kept us organized and fed. Accommodations were comfortable. The duo “Hardtack and Coffee” entertained us with period songs. Regional humor in the PowerPoint presentations (use your imagination) also was entertaining. A super excursion!

Parker and Carol Hays present a great program! Parker, a retired Bridgadier General, knows his Civil War history. Plus, he is always enthusiatic and uses his art and power point expertise to make his presentations interesting and entertaining. You will not fall asleep in his presentations. Carol, his Chief of Staff, takes care of logistical details, and they work well together. All in all, it was a most enjoyable and informative week!

The "On The Home Front,Vicksburg" program was excellent if you are interested in that period in our American History.

Do away with the listening devices, they are more trouble than they are worth. Why was the name changed to Road Schlor, nobody likes it.

Marilyn from Ames, IA Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 03/13/11 - 03/18/11
Parker was a Wonderful, knowledgable Civil War historian. The program was well coordinated by his wife,Carol. It was as much a lesson in leadership as factual about the Seige of Vicksburg. He really brought the history to life and the details were amazing. The hotel accommodations and food were adequate but other more experienced Road Scholar participants were disappointed with both the food and accommodations compared to other programs but my husband and I were satisfied.

Road Scholar's response:
Based on the reviews and evaluations following our program departures in the Spring of 2011, we have changed our accommodations. The new accommodations and meals have since been met with very favorable reviews. We appreciate the feedback we receive from our participants which we use to continually improve our programs.

Whenever I join a program and then find out that there will only be one presenter, I worry, for perhaps I will not like that person! Here Parker Hills was the only one, and I felt very lucky, for he knew absolutely everything about the subject, and he was very kind and funny too. Carol was the mother figure for the group, and took very good care of us all, especially when my husband hit his head on the van's door and got a bleeding head wound.

We have been to almost 50 programs and this one is absolutely one of the very best, and I now understand the siege a little better. I can highly recommend this program!

Don't miss this one! The depth of the presentation is outstanding-this is the best program we have attended. To walk, sit, talk in the very spot these events took place, to 'see' the events thru Ret Br General Parker Hills's eyes and hear not only what happened but why. Learned more about the Civil War inside and outside the Vicksburg area and how all of the actions in several fighting arenas impacted on each other. It came alive. On the edge of my seat often as he went into 'character;' his excitement on giving the information was truly contagious. Carol Hills was the person who kept us on time, kind of, who organized and took charge of everything behind the scenes. I'll go to any program that this couple puts on. OUTSTANDING.

Susan from Fort Pierce, FL Number of programs attended: 6
Date attended: 10/09/11 - 10/14/11
Parker and Carol Hills were exceptional in their warmth, knowledge, helpfulness and friendliness. I will hold them in my memory forever.
