A wonderful immersion in France, its history and culture, viewed through fascinating and beautiful places that make history come alive. We were fortunate to share it with intellectually curious, involved, interesting, and affable people. Thank you to Bill Snowden, our group leader, for making it such a vibrant, meaningful, and satisfying experience.

Have just completed two back to back Road Scholar programs: Survey of France and Independent Paris. Both were fabulous and the tour directors and leaders are top of the line quality. If you ever wanted to visit France and Paris, this is definitely the way to do it right. The memories will be long lasting as well as the new found love of French history, people and culture.

Thoroughly enjoyed my time in France. Great program for getting an overview of France. A wide variety of sites and experiences. Food and wine were plentiful. Need to be able to climb stairs without handrails and be prepared for lots of cobblestones and some hills.

It was a great way to get introduced to France, as the program provide a good overview of France, its history, those sites of interest and it introduces one to French culture. It is meant as a general overall survey without going in depth in any of the regions or larger cities visited. It provides one an opportunity to experience and enjoy several smaller villages and American War Cemeteries.

What a trip! From beginning to its perfect ending with a moonlight dinner cruise, we had fun!We learned the history of France, saw her beautiful sights, at her great food, drank her delicious wine and discovered a little of her soul as revealed by a charming Frenchman, Louis-Gabriel Bideau, our tour guide. Louis-Gabriel kept us safe, happy, well informed, and eager to learn. He is a consummate leader with an easy humor and makes each member of the group feel valued. Be prepared for long walks, steep inclines, many steps and substantial periods of standing--all worth it. This is a fantastic adventure. Don't miss it.

I tried doing a post a little while ago, and it seems to have disappeared. I want to express my strong agreement with Johanna from Manassas and Jack from Palo Alto. The Survey of France is one of the best things I ever did, and that was due in no small part to the amazing leadership of our guide, Louis Gabriel Bideau. Gordon from Gainesville, Texas

I was a first time visitor to France and a first time Roads Scholar traveler. After this trip, I intend to be neither. Before setting out, I had high hopes for the experience I would enjoy. I can now say that my hopes were greatly exceeded. The trip was well-planned and executed. There was no slackening of pace or interest during the entire three weeks. All of the accomodations were very satisfactory. My only complaint about he meals is that I gained weight on the trip. The food was great and the wine tastings were outstanding. There was a good balance between visiting museaums and visiting other kinds of sites. Our tour guide Louis Bideaux was a fine leader who was on top of everything and contributed so much to our over-all experience. PAUL SCHULLER

This excellent Road Scholar Survey of France trip offers stops to many parts of France most tourists would not easily visit. In addition to sampling diverse historical periods, the itinerary provides many, many excellent meals, much wine tasting and splendid walks. Our tour leader, Louis Bideau, is an excellent tour guide and was attentive to his individual clients, adding to their varied interests. Those who have visited France before will have new, enlightening experiences. Those who have not will get a broad geographic and culinary experience not generally offered tour groups. The latter group especially may want to add two or more days in Paris at the end of the tour as our tour included a group metro travel lesson in getting to the Louvre using the underground metro, making it easy for post-war clients to venture by metro or by walking later to other important Parisian stops, such as the Orangerie or the Muses d'Orsay or the Picasso Museum or whatever other spots they might have identified by consulting appropriate tour books or internet websites or by advise of others.

This was an excellent way to see so many places in France and to visit smaller towns/villages with covering over 2000 miles in 3 weeks. The food and wine selections were wonderful...beyond what I had expected. Our group leader, Thomas Randall, was exceptional for preparing and guiding us in the places we visited. The local guides also added more educational opportunities and knowledge about the history of France. The activity level says moderate but I think it could be rated higher since we did daily walking and climbing. You need to be physically fit and ready to explore during the free times in the cities.

This tour was an absolute marvel filled with experiences that have created memories that will last forever. The sights, the wines, the food, & the knowledge gained were all outstanding. Our group leader, Thomas Randall, along with the local guides all imparted so much knowledge and made our trip thoroughly enjoyable.

This program provides you a very nice mix of small and big towns, castles, chateaus, and cathedrals and is quite active. I would recommend that you spend an extra day or two at the end in Paris. All in all, it is a very nice tour and one I would highly recommend, especially for first time visiters to France.
