EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

I've done this as I went along in the evaluation. Both tour directors were great! Good trip to a part of the country we have not visited before.

This Road Scholar program was one of the best that I have been on. While we had early mornings on the trip, two of them were necessitated by the ferry schedules on the journey to and from San Juan Island. There was fairly extensive travel by bus, but having said this, I would not have changed the itinerary, as all the things that we saw and did were very interesting and varied. Our guide, Linda, mixed well with the group, was well organized and informed about the area as were the local guides who enhanced the program with their presentations. On San Juan Island, our island host stayed with us for our entire visit and assisted in making our stay a pleasant and informative one. Our bus was clean and comfortable, our driver very good, especially on those winding mountain roads. The accomodations more than met my expectations and the food service, whether provided at our hotels or in the box lunches, was excellent. I feel that this program was very good value for the expense.

I certainly enjoyed this trip and highly recommend it. There are a few considerations, however. First there are long bus rides. There is nothing that can be done about this because of the nature of the trip; but we from the East are not used to sites being so far about. The second consideration is luggage. The travelers have to carry their own luggage on to the ferry going to San Juan Island. There is one small elevator on the ferry. For those that choose the steps, it could be difficult. The third consideration - suggestion is to come in a day or two early as there is no time to explore Portland. The transportation system is excellent. We did not need a car. For those doing pre or post-travel, I suggest leaving extra luggage at the starting hotel as we ended up back there. Heavy luggage is an issue. Other than that, I enjoyed the leaders, speakers, sites, and fellow travelers.
