My husband and I learned so much from the wonderful experts that led our walks and did the evening lectures. Our tour leader Susie took great care of us, and was wonderfully flexible in making seamless changes to our schedule to take advantage of all the breaks in the rainy weather. The tour was better than we expected, even when the weather did not cooperate. The only down side was the Sea Crest hotel, which had no indoor room for eating breakfast in bad weather, and a lecture/dinner room for us that was really a converted storage area. Cambria is better located for the day tours than Pismo Beach. But all the wildlife viewing went extremely well, including over 30 whale sightings on our 2 hour boat ride. We are anxious to try another program!

This was my first Road Scholar program and it exceeded all my expectations. Our group leader Shannon was outstanding. The speakers were all knowledgeable and engaging and learning about Falconry was an unexpected bonus. Thankfully our weather was perfect and all the animals cooperated beautifully!

This program was even better than I expected. Shannon and Bruce are fantastic. The participants were the nicest and most interesting people. This is what makes Road Scholar great. I will be recommending this trip to all my friends.

My favorite Road Scholar trip so far. The group was small (15) and we all seemed to bond so quickly and easily, it made the week fly by. Our leader, Shannon, was absolutely the best, and Bruce -- engaging, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, entertaining. I could go on and on. Elephant seals and whales were promised and boy did they deliver (especially the elephant seals!!). The butterflies were amazing and we had the bonus of Peepers and Coop (owl and hawk). Everything worked out perfectly. I would highly recommend this program.

Fabulous program! Incredibly lucky to have beautiful weather, after recent rains in CA. Great whale show and the elephant seals have to be seen to be believed. Shannon was the perfect group leader -- thanks for all the cookies!

I just returned (1/15/16) from the Four Migration trip. This part of California has so much nature to offer visitors. Every day was exciting, fun and busy. Bruce is one of the best lecturers I have heard and we were fortunate to have him 3 times and he went out on the field trips with us. The falconer brought his birds and his 12-year old student. We had enough time on our own to go to beach boardwalks, or to Hearst Castle or just walk downtown. This trip is perfect for anyone wanting to know more about nature. Terri

I had to complete the evaluation form three times as I could not "save" the material easily - could use dome help in the future on this matter. The program was fun and as enjoyable as expected

This was a most enjoyable program with a variety of excellent information on the four migrations. Bruce Brown was an excellent instructor and Chuck Walker kept the program moving and informative. The other speakers were all excellent as well. If we had any suggestions it would be that, for example, on the San Simeon walk the leader who was identifying the plants should have made certain that we all got to see the plant he was talking about. The listening devices are excellent but by the time we got to the spot the leader had moved on and we didn't know what to look at. All in all it was four days full of butterflies, seals, birds, wines and winery info and even though the whales didn't show up we did see several spouts on the horizon from the shore.

Bruce Brown is an outstanding teacher and naturalist and quite entertaining as well. Not only was viewing the butterflies and seals mind boggling but we got terrific views of a Red-throated Loon at the Morro Bay Marina as well as a Common Goldeneye. Golden-crowned Sparrows were everywhere and at San Simeon State Park we saw many Mew Gulls and Snowy Plovers and there were three first cycle Thayer's Gulls mixed in with the gigantic Elephant Seals at Piedras Blancas.Unfortunately the whales were a no show on our pelagic excursion but several of us got good distant views of spouting whales and an occasional disappearing back of a whale from Fiscalini Ranch boardwalk. I had a great time!

went on the Jan. 11, 2015, Four Migrations trip. Was a great trip - saw all four of the migrations plus some. Learned a lot and enjoyed it. Highly recommend it!

Wonderful Migrations program and my first Road Scholar trip. We were lucky with our leaders and lecturers and with the other tour members who were a varied and zesty group. The weather and wildlife viewing were superb and we had the rare good fortune of seeing a elephant seal pup being born. The Cambria Pines Lodge was charming and the landscapes just beautiful. A+++

This is an outstanding program! We stayed at the Sea Crest Hotel and the views of the ocean were gorgeous. The food was better than average, the group leader Shannon did a fantastic job, the lectures were very informative, interesting and fun. The tours were spectacular! Pismo Beach is a great place to visit in January, the weather was perfect. I highly recommend this program to anyone interested in the wildlife of the Central California Coast.

I cannot say enough good things about the Migrations program. It is the best Road Scholar program I have been on.

John from Tucson, AZ Number of programs attended: 7

The concept of the program is excellent. Seals, butterflies exceptional viewing opportunities. Except for the birding lecture, the lectures failed to use graphics equipment available in the room so the lectures were below modern standards. Virtually no guiding on the bus.

Viewing the elephant seals and the butterflies were a highlight of this trip! Cambria is a delightful area to visit.

Good information and a beautiful area of the country. Mammals and birds in this area are incredible.
