ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

As a beginning birder, I was especially appreciative of the patience, sensitivity, and skill showed by our excellent local guides, Robin & Matt. Loved the sight of the sandhill cranes flying in. Especially enjoyed the more than 50 red-tail hawks seen on our first day out. Beautiful scenery and very compatible group. Our leaders really knew how to locate many species, including two resident great horned owls nesting in a local garden center.

What a terrific program! Robin and Matt were the leaders and they were really good. Both of these guys are very skilled at knowing birds and at finding them. This is also a great program for a beginning birder. I learned so much and had such fun. Mac's review below is right. You cannot imagine 7,000 Sandhills coming in for a landing. So neat! We had 18 participants, so 9 in each van with Robin and Matt each driving. We had a peregrine falcon the first day 15 minutes out of town!

You have to see the arrival of a flight of sand hill cranes, word do not do justice to glory.

Highly recommend this birding program. Our leaders were excellent and worked hard to find our target birds and to help the participants get good views of the birds. 1 leader/8 participants was great.

My wife and I had a wonderful time on this adventure! Our group leaders, Robin Baxter, Matt Brown, and Sheri Williamson, were excellent in all regards. They are very knowledgeable, patient, and accommodating of others' needs. We had 24 people in three vans, so a 8 to 1 ratio of participant to leader. Great trip and we learned a lot.

This was the best birding trip I've been on in the US. Part of it was due to the participants, who were all so compatible and interested in birding. But a big part of the success goes to the two leaders, who were the most knowledgeable I've had in a U.S. based program. It went beyond just what the birds were. Sheri Williamson, one of the leaders, was extremely knowledgeable about the subspecies and the differences between the subspecies, the habitats, the environment, etc etc. Robin Baxter also was great, in that he knew the area so well and what birds were around and where. I also appreciated that we had 2 vans for 12 people, so we weren't crammed in. It made for a quick exit from the vans when a bird needed to be observed quickly. The accommodations were quite adequate, breakfast at the hotel was good. The meals were varied. I would only make one change to one restaurant, the 2nd night. It was pretty unappealing. The rest were fine. The pace was good; we got a lot of birding in. I don't know if this trip was a 'small group' or not, but no more than 12 should take this trip. I would not sign up if there were more than 12. Great trip.

MY FIRST BIRDING TRIP WITH ROAD SCHOLARS AND THE GUIDES SEEMED AS GOOD AS THE ONES ON MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE BIRDING EXPEDITIONS. I WOULD DEFINATELY GO ON ANOTHER AND RECOMMEND IT TO OTHER BIRDERS. OUR GROUP WAS ALSO INTERESTING AND COMPATIBLE.
