I share the enthusiasm about this program already expressed by others: it was terrific! It's not easy to capture the depth and breadth of Istanbul past and present in just a week, but our wonderful guide did so. I particularly valued the openness with which we discussed contemporary political and cultural issues. A fascinating and wonderful experience!

This was a fabulous program with an equally fabulous tour guide. Istanbul is a vibrant, cosmopolitan city, very clean, very safe, and very exciting.

I thought I knew quite a bit about ancient Constantinople, but I was amazed by how much I learned about the vibrancy, excitement, and quality of life of modern Istanbul. It is a happening place!

The trip to Istanbul was fabulous. I can't say enough for it. All the sites we visited and the facinating history we learned were a great combination. Wonderfuil hotel in a good location for getting around. I enjoyed the other participents who were all friendly and some great fun as well. Our leaders were knowledgeable and very helpful. Excellent trip - just as advertised. I agree with the comments made by my fellow travelers. I would add that our guide Reyan made the experience excellent. She was knowledgeable and a caring person. My husband was I'll early in the trip and she was very helpful directing us to resources, checking on him, etc. We came to appreciate her even more when we used our free time near the end of the tour to make up important things he missed. We realized how well she had managed our time and kept us ahead of the crowds as we struggled with long lines everywhere we went. I would encourage anyone visiting Istanbul to go with a good tour like this one. Istanbul is a spectacular city but not one to do on your own!

Byzantium, Constantinople, Istanbul --- an unforgettable trip that will bring magical memories; the spirituality at the sight of the minarets, the Iznik mosaics of the Blue Mosque, the courtyards of the Topkapi Palace and the Harem, the trip along the Bosphorous, and many more..... Not to forget our excellent guide and leader Reja Tuvin -- knowledgeable, passionate about the subject matter, patient, helpful -- just a lovely person. I loved our boutique hotel with its understated elegance and friendly and helpful staff. And, how lucky I was to be part of such a congenial and lovely group of friends.... I will certainly recommend Road Scholars -- I've already done so. Carmen San Miguel

I can't imagine experiencing Istanbul any other way. From the ancient walls of Constantinople, the Byzantine mosaics and frescoes of Hagia Sophia and the Chora Church, through the mosques and palaces of the Ottoman empire, to the art, culture, beauty and diversity of modern day Istanbul, this program is an in-depth introduction to this lively and exotic city. Our guide was warm, engaging and extremely knowledgeable. The lectures were top-notch and greatly enhanced my understanding and appreciation of the sites visited. The Bosphorus cruise and lunch on the water's edge were icing on the cake. In all, an unforgettable experience.
