ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

This was the perfect program for girls who love ponies. My granddaughter announced that she wants to take the exact same program again next year. A lot of our enthusiasm can be attributed to our excellent leader. She was very knowledgeable and related well to everyone. The pace of the trip was perfect. Everyone needed a little down time late afternoon. A dip in the motel pool was the perfect thing to do. While the trip focused on ponies, it was much more than that. We had a ranger-led hike into the marsh. There was an excellent talk at the NWR Center. These were presented in such a way that both children and grandparents got a lot out of it. The children had fun with an archery lesson, making buttons, and painting a ceramic pony to bring home. This was my first intergenerational trip and it definitely exceeded my expectations.

This is the ideal trip for 9 and 10 year old girls. My two granddaughters loved it. There were a wide variety of interesting activities, but the focus is on the ponies. We took advantage of the optional mini-lesson and trail ride which is not included in the package. It is well worth the small additional fee, but it's definitely not mandatory. My granddaughter, who had never been on a horse before, said it was the most fun she had ever had. The trip leader, Cindy, was very organized and an excellent speaker who kept both the adults and children engaged in her stories about the island and ponies. She was very caring and wonderfully patient with the kids. She even took them for an evening of model-pony painting and pizza so the grandparents could have some downtime and an adults-only dinner. The mosquitoes can be a bit troublesome if you are sensitive to insect bites, so take some bug spray, but don't let that keep you away from a rewarding experience.
