I had never been to the southwest territory, and frankly did not know what to expect. I was thrilled and delighted with the program of Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Taos. There was so much to see and learn from each location.

This program would appeal to participants who are interested in the history and culture of America's West, who enjoy exquisite landscape and who have appreciation for many forms of American artwork.

A very enlightening and worthwhile experience. I recommend this program to anyone interested in visiting New Mexico and learning about the Native American population and it's culture. It met everyone of expectations.

My husband and I greatly enjoyed our introduction to this style of educational travel. The deep and varied culture and beautiful landscape of northern New Mexico makes every day on this trip an adventure. We particularly enjoyed traveling with two sets of old friends -- it's a wonderful way to spend time with old friends and make new ones!

An excellent experience for Puebloan culture. The food is great and varied. Time to explore on your own as well as guided tours. A great experience and one to be enjoyed.

I learned a lot about New Mexico and the pueblo native Americans. Our leader, Mark, was very knowledgable and shared a lot of information as we rode on the bus as well as in his well organized lectures. The guest speakers were interesting. Ron Roybal's demo about the dance steps and dress that we would see at the Pow Wow of the Nations really helped appreciate and better understand our time at the Pow Wow. However, in the future, this program should have participants go to the first day of the Pow Wow to see the adult competitions. Visiting the pueblos was a highlight for me.

Our group leader, Mark, was great. His knowledge of the region and its people is broad and deep. Personable and a good sense of humor. Program had a good mix of lecture, museums, on-site visits, demonstrations, sightseeing. More than ample shopping opportunities. Interesting and beautifiul (in its own way) part of our country.

An excellent introduction to a beautiful, thinly-populated state where almost 10% of the population is Native American. Very rich history involving both Mexico and the United States. Good insight into Pueblo Indian culture.

Wonderful program. As is usual on Road Scholar trips, I met many like-minded, interesting people and went to places not usually seen by casual visitors. Mark Utgaard, our leader was knowledgeable, and it was easy to see that the people we met at various venues liked and respected him. The scenery was beautiful and inspiring, unusual for the eyes of a Midwesterner, where scenery is mostly flat fields of corn. I hate to admit that before this trip, most of what knew about the early Southwest was from the movies. I now have a new respect for the native people and their culture. Most of the early U.S History that we learn east of the Mississippi is about what happened in the colonies. There was, and still is, so much that I didn't know about what was happening at the same time in New Mexico.

Took my first trip with Road Scholar in the Fall of 2013. What a wonderful experience it was to deal with an organization who truly cares about seeing that participants have a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

I usually like to visit foreign countries when I vacation, but this tour immersed me in a culture that was as unfamiliar to me as those in any nation outside the U.S.--more so, in some ways. And as an Easterner, I found the landscape equally unusual and breathtaking. About 90% of the tour revolves around the Native American tribes in the area (including visits to pueblos, ruins, and museums), and the rest involves the Spanish settlers and modern artists who live there. The tour was very well organized and brilliantly led by Mark Utgaard. The food was wonderful (there was, if anything, too much of it!) and hotels comfortable (except the Comfort Inn in Taos--RS should consider replacing it). Our group of about 26 was delightful--I'd happily travel with them again. I don't think the activity level was as strenuous as RS indicates, but that of course depends on your own age and ability. And it was an amazing value for the price--everything included except airfare and one dinner! One of my best vacations ever!

"On the Road in Northern New Mexico" is to become immersed in the true "Land of Enchantment." The balance of program selections is a work of art in itself, from history lectures and museums to field trips and demonstrations to art galleries and street vendors to beautiful scenery to ancient Pueblos and their peoples. New Mexico stands out for me as one our "hidden" national treasures, and this trip more than adequately explored it beauty and complex history/culture. Bravo to Road Scholar for an outstanding program, planned and executed with rare excellence down to the minute details.
