Road Scholar
Program #11479RJ
9 Days | 8 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Easy
Road Scholar has thousands of educational adventures to choose from. A good way to narrow down our list is to browse our collection of "Most Popular" programs.
See all of our Most Popular programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

The calving glacier and the serenity of Hobart Bay are memories I treasure. Our leaders, Laura and Jeff, did a fine job interpreting a different way of life for us. Good food and friendly crew.

This trip was a tremendous experience. To see the incredible scenery, the amazing wildlife and just generally experience a part of our country that most never see is an opportunity that shouldn't be missed.

Small ship experience is an ideal way to get up close and personal with the wonders of the Alaska rain forest.

David from Washington, DC Number of programs attended: 5
Date attended: 08/15/14 - 08/23/14
I appreciated this program for its integration and presentation of the natural and cultural histories of this part of the world about which I had known virtually nothing.

Kenneth from San Francisco, CA Number of programs attended: 2

This program is superlative in every respect. It opens one's eyes to Alaska, it provides collegiality among the participants, and the ship's size makes the entire experience manageable. Go for it!!!

Alaska's Inner Passage, awesome! Wonderful, calm seas reflected the beauty of the surrounding landscapes of mountains, glaciers and forests. We viewed more whales than I ever would have imagined possible and while they were performing just for their own joy, we were the fortunate spectators! The study of glaciers opened my eyes to encourage me to study geology, which surprised me. Delicious food on board the Baranof Dream! Comfortable cabin and with only 42 passengers on board, it was a dream of a trip. Fabulous choice. Thank you, Road Scholar, for the trip I had never imagined possible.

This was a trip of a lifetime. It was a perfect trip for my mother and I to do together, since it provided the comfort she needs (and I certainly appreciated) with the setting and activities that appealed to both us.

Just returned from the Alaska Inside Passage trip with Road Scholar. Incredible!! Enjoyed everything about this trip. It was well organzied and well run. Saw so many amazing animals: humpback whales, killer whales, mountain goats, bears, puffins, eagles, sea lions, seals otters.....and so much more. I would definitley recommend this trip if you like a small group experience, leisurly pace, enjoy being with people over 55 years old and many in their 70's and 80's. It struck a good balance with activities to do off the boat as well as relaxing days on the boat. Food was wonderful. All the staff extremly accomadating to your needs. Captain Mark was great.

Loved our Alaska's Inside Passage trip! I was not prepared for the majestic beauty of this part of our wonderful country. The Baranof Dream was the perfect vessel to maneuver through to the glaciers. Great food, wonderful guides, a fabulous journey!

Top notch trip with crew and leaders of outstanding abilities. Scenic wonder, wildlife near at hand and gourmet meals on a small ship, which meant we could get close to those wonders. What more could I want!

The very best way to experience Alaska's inside passage !!

My husband and I just completed a small ship cruise on the Inside Passage of Alaska. It was a wonderful experience and we would highly recommend it for anyone who enjoys magnificent scenery, wild animals, a friendly crew, good food and a great learning experience.

Linda from Unionville, CT Number of programs attended: 15

This is one of the best programs I have been on. I will treasure this experience.

Margaret from Bella Vista, AR Number of programs attended: 7

If you have ever wanted to see and learn about Southeast Alaska, this is the program for you. The scenery, the wildlife, the cultural aspects, and the history are all included in a small cruise ship with only 50 other interesting people. If there is a chance to change the program, such as whale watching or bear watching, we can do that.

Elaine from Tinley Park, IL Number of programs attended: 0

Worth every penney!

John from Lake Oswego, OR Number of programs attended: 5

While definitely American, Alaska presents an opportunity to see a vital Native culture and to experience wilderness beauty with almost no effort. This is the best of the RoadScholar/ElderHostel programs I've attended. The only reason not to repeat it is that it could not possibly be a good on the second tour!

Susan from Kensington, NH Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 07/12/13 - 07/20/13
As first time road scholars, we were thoroughly pleased with our experience -- interesting and friendly company, excellent instructors and presentations, diverse and enriching field trips, and of course the magnificent Alaskan scenery and cultural wealth. The trip exceeded our hopes and was a wonderful way to celebrate our anniversary. We intend to join the ranks of the seasoned travelers that we met and enjoyed.
