Excellent hikes in off the beaten path areas of Sedona. It's great that it's only a short drive to each day's hike. Excellent leaders, good food and fine accommodations made for a fun trip!

Not for the faint of heart or for those expecting the advertised "moderately challenging" program. Sedona landscape is amazing but the trails selected, especially the first two days, were not appropriate for the RS level designation due to hike length and amount of rock scrambling, narrow ledges, and off trail bushwhacking. First day hike was especially problematic since there was no less challenging option presented at any time for those not ready for the inappropriate difficulty of the hike. Food and lodging were adequate or better. Logistics were smooth.

Tom from La Jolla, CA Number of programs attended: 4

Very scenic hiking with lots of climbing. Of my four hiking trips this was the most vigorous because of the scrambling over the rocks and because the trails all had signifigent amount of rocks so you had to watch each step. Having said that a healthy hiker should have no problem and the views and the guides were tremendous

Beautiful scenery, interesting routes off-trail and wonderful leaders.

This trip was rated as challenging for the week that I attended, and it was, in all the best ways. We saw the red rock splendor up close, by hiking in canyons, up mountains, and beside the Oak Creek. We were empowered to challenge ourselves by the confidence our guide, Mike Young, had in us, and we had in him. And we were rewarded by viewing, touching, and experiencing the rocks, trees, and breathtaking scenery of the desert. Mike is a walking encyclopedia of geology, botany, southwestern history - and many other subjects. John, the other leader on our hike, was also very capable, kind, and shared personal stories and experiences about what makes this area so unique.
We were very fortunate that our group - many of whom were from Canada, were extremely compatible.
On the practical side, I almost always hike with poles, but for the most part, I didn't need them, since it helped to have my hands free.

Always heard Sedona was great hiking & now I know first hand. Learned to trust my boots to grip the rocks. Sunshine & blue skies every day. The holidays flew by. Meeting Velvet, the tarantula & Sam, the gopher snake was an experience. Thanks Jeff & John.

Janet from Bethelridge, KY Number of programs attended: 6
Date attended: 10/12/13 - 10/17/13
this was my 6th road scholar trip and one of my favorite. great hikes and views, excellent guides and interesting hiking group.

Richard from Leawood, KS Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 10/12/13 - 10/17/13
If you want a trip that is challenging and scenery that is spectacular, then this is the trip for you. Hiking trails were rocky with lots of climbing up and down steps and ledges so good hiking boots are necessary. All and all a wonderful time.

Marinette from West Hartford, CT Number of programs attended: 3
Date attended: 10/12/13 - 10/17/13
This was a beautiful area, with perfect weather. Low 40's in the am to high 60's in the afternoon. Knowledgeable leaders, Jeff & John lead most hikes with Peter also assisting on several days. Hikes were challenging in that we hiked up & down slick rock & on narrow trails with a long drop-off. The very first day we climbed off trail & scrambled up ledges-a difficulty for most women & strenuous for most on day 1.

Jan from N. Saanich, BC Number of programs attended: 2
Date attended: 10/12/13 - 10/17/13
I came to Sedona to get up close and personal with the Red Rocks and this program exceeded my expectations.

Michele from Bernville, PA Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 09/29/13 - 10/04/13
I had the best time I have ever had hiking in Sedona with our leaders, Mike and John. Inspiring, informative, and breathtaking. We were led on trails that I could never have found myself, far away from the beaten path. Fun, fun, fun. Challenging myself every day.

Tricia from Mountain Home, AR Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 04/21/13 - 04/26/13
I got the feeling the instructor, Mike Young, was trying to reduce the group size at the Orientation meeting on the first night, by "scaring off" hikers for the first day of hikes. He was successful, in that two of the eightteen hikers, backed out, and did not even attempt the first day of hiking. The next day, two other hikers dropped out. If he was trying to reduce the group size, he was successful.

Janice from Salt Lake City, UT Number of programs attended: 7
Date attended: 04/21/13 - 04/26/13
I loved the hikes, the vistas, the company. Participants should be able to walk 5 miles in two hours, and about half the group couldn't do that. It was a challenge for the leaders to accommodate them, and caused a certain amount of concern for those who struggled. Desert hiking isn't easy, but it is highly rewarding for those who rise to the challenge.

Emily from Klamath Falls, OR Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 10/22/12 - 10/27/12
This was my first trip with Road Scholar. I look forward to doing more trips. It definitly opens up opportunities of exploration with people and places that I welcome at this time of my life. I am 76, widowed, and found that "I am still "young, able, adventurous, interested" in doing more in the years ahead. Meeting people of like mind and attitude was very invigoratiing.

Judy from Lethbridge, AB Number of programs attended: 4
Date attended: 10/29/12 - 11/03/12
This level 6 hiking program was superb. Hikes were strenuous and challenging, but our leaders made sure we were safe and secure at all times. This is truly a level 6 and those who are not experienced and very fit hikers should think twice before choosing this level. Frequent close encounters with cacti meant wearing long pants and long sleeved shirts at all times. Bring high (not low) hiking boots with serious Vibram soles, bring gloves to protect your hands at times, bring a good hat with a wide brim and bring sunblock! Meals at the Golden Goose beside the hotel were wonderful, and the hotel itself was great -- spotlessly clean and comfortable.
