Active
For people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately Challenging
For hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
Challenging
Get ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

It is hard to find the words to tell you how great this trip was/is. I say 'was' AND 'is' because although the course ended, the experience, beauty, and knowledge will last forever. Garrett and Dennis are good men and fountains of knowledge about the Sedona and Grand Canyon area. All our rides to various places were 'mini-classes' in geology, botany and biology. Each day had it's own unique beauty as well as great speakers and new friends. Stan Beus, geologist from NAU, gave us a fascinating talk on the geology of the Colorado Plateau and Grand Canyon. Chio Black, a Hopi elder, shared the history of the Hopi people in the area and of her own family and tribe from the Second Mesa. Margaret Mitchell later educated us on some critters of the area. Sedona is absolutely gorgeous in the big and small. Everywhere you go, you see the magnificent red rocks, flowers, forests, canyons. The Grand Canyon is . . . . the Grand Canyon. Awesome, beautiful, grand. No words or photos can capture the essence of it. Often I was moved to tears at the magnificence. Sunset at Hopi Point is spectacular (but not good for taking photos of the canyon as the light hits it because you are shooting into the sun). Sunrise was definitely worth getting up for. It's as though the canyon is asleep and rock by rock, it 'wakes up' as the light illuminates section by section. Walking back to the lodge, I encountered a magnificent elk munching away. Not only was this trip spectacular in and of itself, but it has made me want to come home and read MORE about geology and the Hopi tribe. THAT is a good program -- one that fills you up mind, body, and spirit AND makes you thirsty for more knowledge. All I can say to any of you considering the trip -- DO IT! All I can say to Garrett, Dennis, Stan, Chio, Margaret, the wonderful staff at NAU, and our group of fascinating group of fellow learners and new friends is THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

Wow, what a trip, what an organization, what a learning experience and what a leader! Since I was a little girl in Cuba I wanted to see the Grand Canyon, and I finally saw it when I am 87. Road Scholar made it even richer than we could have ever done on our own. When I arrived at Sedona I could not believe the beauty that I saw in this city. I said if this is all that I see, the waiting was worth it. Every day the experience was better and better. I had a room that the view was incredible of the “Coffee Pot”. It was like if everyday, God was drinking coffee with me. The lectures presentations by Stanley Beus, and Chio Black prepared us for what we were going to see around Sedona and in the Grand Canyon. Garrett and Dennis were very thoughtful. When we were in the shuttles they took care of us all the time as wonderful “daddies”. This made me feel secure. I was in Dennis’s shuttle and he explained everything we were traveling. Garrett did the same in his. The visit to the University was wonderful. To be able to see where those who put so much effort in preparing these trips work and get new ideas was very important. Thank you to all of you that had something to do in preparing this Magnificent Experience. The experience and beauty of the Grand Canyon took my breath away. The way Garrett introduced to us the Canyon was incredible… Thank you Garrett.!!! Nothing can describe it. You have to experience it for yourself. As if this was not enough, we had the presentation of Margaret Mitchell on Wild Sedona. (As a ‘city girl’ growing up in Havana where we never even saw snakes, I could not believe I had the tarantulas in my hands and the snakes around my neck.) Garrett’s movie the last morning and the stories he told us was like the bow that wrapped this gift together. It was an unforgettable trip. Thank you to every one that had something to do in preparing this Magnificent Experience that touched my soul. GRACIAS.

We had a great time meeting the people in this group and experiencing northeast Arizona and the Grand Canyon. Sedona is a beautiful town but the Grand Canyon is beyond description. All we can say is that if you haven't been there you definitely should take advantage of Road Scholar's programs and visit it. It is truly spectacular.

I extend my warmest thanks to RoadScholar, for enabling me to grow personally and to experience monumental, breath-taking places. We learned about the geology, peoples and music of the Sedona-Grand Canyon area. The train rides were an added bonus and plain fun.

My husband and I attended the program with James and his wife. It was a very congenial group with several "newbies". We hope we convinced them that this is one of the best values around. This is a perfect time of the year to see Sedona and the Grand Canyon! Wild flowers are out and the crowds are thin. We used the new listening aids and found that they work very well - when the batteries are fresh. A small, fixable snag.

Our group leader made this an A+ experience for me. This was my first time with Road Scholars and my first trip to the Grand Canyon. Garrett set the bar pretty high for my next trip.
