What a wonderful, educational program in a unique area of the country! Azalia Begay has organized talented presenters with expertise in many areas who enriched our understanding of the Navajo life experience, present and past. Even if one is well-read in Navajo history and culture, meeting and getting to know Azalia and the environment and culture of the area in person is a life-changing opportunity. We were treated to honest discussion of wide-ranging topics, arts and crafts unfolding before our eyes, a beautiful canyon to explore, nice accommodations, staff and food. Azalia's personal motivation and care for each of us as well as her unique culture is remarkable and commendable. My husband and I highly recommend this program.

Excellent presenters! The canyon is beyond description. We learned so much about Navajo culture that was different from other indigenous people we have visited. We are so thankful that they were willing to open their canyon, their reservation, and their hearts to us!

This is a Road Scholar experience that will fill in a gap about American History that most of us did not learn. It is an important and not to be missed opportunity to more deeply understand the American story. Mary Ann

I have lived in Arizona for 15 years but never visited the Navajo lands. Road Scholar allowed me not just to visit but to immerse myself in the rich history, culture, and current life of those who live in this fabulously beautiful place. The lectures were delivered by knowledgable people; the recommended readings were excellent. I am so glad that I chose the program that gave me five days to experience the spirit of this people and their place.

Great experience to see a fascinating treasure of the South West and to learn so much about the Navajo Nation, past and present.

Let me add my comments to those of the other participants praising this wonderful program. After touring the South Rim and the North Rim and the jeep ride in the canyon, I feel I really saw Canyon de Chelly. The evening programs were interesting and fun. Azalea was an especially good group leader, not only for her excellent organizational skills, but also for her knowledge and candor. I recommend this program to anyone who is interested in the Navajo people or who loves fabulous scenery.

This was our 29th program and definitely near the top of our list of favorites. Azalia Lewis was one of the best, if not the best, coordinators we have ever had. The field trips and programs were well organized, accommodations and food were excellent. We not only learned more about the Navajo Nation but also about the geology and history of the area. Highly recommend this program.

This Canyon de Chelly program was recommended to me by participants of a former RoadScholar program. I was told if I wanted to see a truly magnificent canyon, then this was the program to enroll in. But, I never imagined the beauty of the area. The Canyon's red sandstone walls rising 1,000 feet with the sun reflecting off them was a breathtaking sight. Our trips to the canyon rims were well organized. Our group leader, Azalia, provided detailed information about the canyon as we walked the trails to the overlooks. Walking sticks would be a great idea for several of the trails. The trip into the canyon was a wild ride and much fun. Speakers were very informative and entertaining. I now have a better understanding of life on the Navajo Reservation, art in the canyon, music of the Navajo people and crafts of the area. The Holiday Inn proved us with a comfortable and pleasant "home base" for the week. I would highly recommend this program to anyone interested in Navajo culture and National Parks

This was my first Road Scholar program, and it certainly won't be the last. I learned so much about the Navajo. The excellent presenters enhanced my understand of and my respect for the Navajo people. The trips to the canyon rims and canyon floor enabled us to see up close the ancient pictographs and petroglyphs that I had only seen in books previously. The wonderful assortment of participants and our knowledgeable and gracious coordinator, Azalia Lewis, made the entire experience rich and fun-filled.

Excellent program, Azalia is a great moderator. All of the presenters were very knowledgeable and gave excellent understandable presentations. The accommodations at the Holiday Inn were fine. All of the personnel at the hotel were pleasant, courteous and willing to accommodate our needs. Would recommend to anyone interested in Navajo culture and visiting Canyon De Chelly.

This trip was my first experience with Road Scholar. I was totally pleased with it and anticipate more trips. The instructors were very knowledgeable, sharing, open to questions. I learned so much. The other individuals on the trip were diverse and interesting. The brochure was very good, but the trip had even more interesting and fun experiences.
