While all of our learning adventures offer extraordinary value, our "Best Value" programs were rated by our participants themselves who thought their dollar went particularly far.
Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Havasupai is a unique and extraordinary place. The hiking required to get to it is wonderful, but the experience is far more than hiking. The scenery is stunning and exceeds rafting down the Grand Canyon. Our guides were excellent in every way. I had been to Supai 40 years ago and this trip was just as rewarding. The program exceeded my expectations in every way and is a steal for the cost.

Our trip was delightful in all ways Our guides were outstanding in their knowledge and wonderful facilitators. The hiking was challenging but doable and the setting was spectacular

I just returned from hiking in the Granite Gorge and Supai Program at the Grand Canyon. It was an amazing experience. I was a solo participant and felt welcome and very comfortable. The hikes were strenuous but not more so than I was led to expect. Havasu and Mooney Falls are a sight I will always remember. I fulfilled a wish of many years--to hike to the bottom of Grand Canyon and make it back out!

This program exceeded expectations. It was challenging, highly educational, explored some of the most beautiful and complex geography on the planet, and was expertly lead. This less-visited region of Grand Canyon and its inhabitants are well worth the time and effort to discover and learn about.

This was everything I had hoped for. It was sad to see the week come to an end I was still reved up and ready to go for more.

The program is an exceptional opportunity to meet interesting people and to gain knowledge about activities of interest. A wonderful program.

The hiking was challenging, the views magnificent, the cultural sharing enlightening, and all-in-all this is a great way to understand and appreciate the Grand Canyon.

Judy from Lethbridge, AB Number of programs attended: 3
Date attended: 10/21/12 - 10/27/12
This program is a superb combination of excellent hiking and cultural exploration of the native American groups who live in the areas where the hikes are located. The result is an extremely rich experience in a beautiful, beautiful part of Arizona that many never see.

Margaret from Oro Valley, AZ Number of programs attended: 2

You will not be disappointed with this Road Scholar trip...the two leaders make it worthwhile and enjoyable. It is a totally different experience than the regular GC!!!!

Sally from Bellingham, WA Number of programs attended: 17

Loved Supai- Land of Blue Green water- Diamond Creek and Tonto Rim Hikes. This program works well with program #6114, in Page, AZ- Hiking the Slick Rock, Slot Canyons and Red Rocks of Lake Powell.

When I closed my eyes the following week in Yoga class, I could see the same site I'd seen in the Gorge. This sacred spot was captured in my mind as faithfully as photo.

After this, our second Road Scholar hiking program, my husband and I are now addicted. Leadership, coordination, fellowship and superlative scenery made this trip a standout for us. Jeff and Jen did a great job and taught us much geology and biology along the way. Special thanks to Jen for her patience with all my plant ID questions. Our favorite hikes were along the Tonto Platform and down past the waterfalls below Supai. Sure there are frequent trains passing by the Hualapai Lodge night and day, but if you're concerned they will keep you awake the hotel supplies ear plugs and you can always turn the room vent fan on high as gray noise. We slept like babies! One tool to include in your backpack though might be tweezers just in case one of those "teddy bears" attacks!

This was my first Road Scholar experience. Overall, I would rate it as terrific - the group leaders, the accommodations, the fellow participants, and the locale. It more than met my expectations so I recommend it highly.

Alan from Lexington, MA Number of programs attended: 2

Great hiking, great views, good insight into tribal life, but be aware of noisy trains outside Hualapai lodge every 15 minutes day and night.

Program was accurately described in the Road Scholar pre trip information, the execution was wonderful and I enjoyed the trip very much!!

This program is a terrific combination of strenuous hiking combined with in-depth learning about the western Grand Canyon's geology and cultural history. The visit to the small village of Supai where we hiked to Havasu and Mooney Falls was the trip's highlight. Stewart Lasseter's personal involvement with the native Supai added depth and perspective to understanding the history and current struggles of the villagers.

Both Stewart and Jeff Strang were outstanding leaders. They are incredibly informed about the geology, biology and history of this lesser-visited area of the Grand Canyon. Plus, they seemed to be having a great time themselves and made for a fun trip.

Ronald from Champaign, IL Number of programs attended: 30
Date attended: 10/30/11 - 11/05/11
This program was another adventure of a lifetime. The view from the rim in the national park is awesome; however, that is what everybody sees. To really experience the Grand Canyon, this program takes the participants to remote, interesting areas of outstanding beauty.

The guides, Mike and Rich, are real professionals. They led the group on the adventures, always making safety a priority. Concerns of the group and the individual were melded nicely. Activities ran on time.
