This program was a great experience. The group leaders had a great depth of knowledge about the area and were seasoned hikers. Their enthusiasm and obvious love of the area was infectious. Scenery is breathtaking.

An excellent fun program with terrific guides. Very well organized. The accommodations at Apache are pretty basic, but the food was better than usual, and the place is beautiful and tranquil. The ride to Apache Lake and the daily hikes is quite an adventure. The phoenix part entails some great hikes as well.

A somewhat challenging series of hikes over rocky trails through an interesting and beautiful landscape led by knowledgable and personable leaders--topped off by great and generous meals.

This an excellent program and I highly recommend it to those who wish to do desert hiking. The program leaders, Mike Young and John Graham were excellent and very informative. I learned a lot about the geology and botany of the Sonoran Desert and the Superstition Mountains. The landscapes of the desert were beautiful, especially the Superstition Mountains, which were spectacular.

This was a wonderful trip and the leaders, Mike Young and Michael Masek were fantastic. Each is an expert in the area. In addition, each was extremely considerate and accommodating. Hard to imagine better leadership. A couple of the hikes were relatively easy and a couple had more difficult terrain. I strongly suggest carrying a hiking pole(s). The Wyndham Hotel was often frustrating. Part of the pool was being repaired and unheated as well. Chatting with the staff indicated that this was and likely to remain a long-standing problem. Two of the three wake-calls I requested were botched. We never could figure out how to set the alarm on the room clock. The "sleep number" bed device was faulty. The staff is friendly but often unaware of the current state of repairs. We returned to the hotel for a night after the trip concluded and things went more smoothly and we had time to enjoy the garden at the hotel. The Wyndham is perfect for those coming from the airport because it can be reached by the light rail (Osbourne stop) for only $1 for seniors; the hotel is a short two block walk from the light rail. The resort at Apache Lake is in a glorious setting and the staff is quite friendly. However, we switched rooms because our original one did not have reading lights. To ensure a room with reading lights over the bed, request the motel wing nearer the main building. In addition, try for the upper level so as to get an even better view of the mountains and the lake in the foreground.
