A fabulous program in every way. Mike was an excellent leader with exceptional people management skills. He was always great fun to be with while sharing his very abundant knowledge of the Grand Canyon and the areas around it. I thoroughly enjoyed, and was pleasingly challenged by, Stewart's knowledge and the areas of expertise that he brought to the program. The day spent with Carl in the Canyon was absolute unforgetable bonus time. Thank you Road Scholar for another great, great week.

I thoroughly enjoyed this trip. The guides were knowledgeable and helpful, and the other participants were friendly and compatible. We were able to experience the Canyon from a wide variety of perspectives, learning, learning, learning all the time. Be warned that this program is based in the Canyon itself and most meals are eaten in the lodge cafeteria -- the cafeteria menu remains the same from day to day so if you have dietary restrictions you may not have a wide variety of options-- but it is do-able and overall definitely worth the trip.

Good trip. Educational and showed me places in the park I wouldn't have gone on my own. Not too physically challenging to this novice (but reasonably fit) hiker. Leaders were knowledgeable, approachable, and flexible to meet the needs of participants. Made the geology interesting. Showed us pine nuts, horned toad, tarantulas, rattlesnake--I'd never noticed them before. Lodging was good, food okay. Nice bunch of participants.

While I am an avid hiker my husband isn't. We both wanted to experience the Grand Canyon not just stand on the rim and look into it. The hikes covered more locations than what we would have covered on our own. The hikes down into the canyon were as a small group with geologic and enviromental information. Plenty of time was allowed to hike back to the top of the rim at your own pace or if a fast hiker there were shuttles that could take you back to your National Park Lodge room or to catch an afternoon ranger program. Staying inside the park was convienient to all the Grand Canon NP has to offer. A walk to sunrise/sunset at the rim, elk, mule deer, good meal locations and the shuttle buses routes were easy to understand eliminating the need to drive and find parking places.

This was our first and while we had received consistently great feedback from friends who had travelled, it was beyond expectation. While the Grand Canyon was of course a superstar, our guides Mike Masek and Mike Young were superb in their knowledge base and people skills. The program was well thought out and perfectly described; a great value. The friendships and the common ground of all participants was instant. What a great lifechanger. We are already on our next one

Our 6 day trip was very well described up front. Each day’s hike was clearly explained in terms of mileage, elevation gain or loss, and degree of difficulty. Our leaders, Bruce Banker and Mike Masek, were very knowledgeable about the geology of the canyon, the exploration history, and the wildlife, birds, trees and flowers. As first time visitors and canyon hikers, we learned a lot from them over the course of our visit. They were excellent at organizing the “troops” i.e. the Road Scholar hikers, and guiding them on the trails in an organized but tolerant way. The leaders were flexible in their planning and hiking expectations, so that on any given day participants could chose not to hike at all, or cut off after a brief hike while others could complete the day trip as laid out. No ruffled feathers here that we could see. The day trips varied in terms of physical difficulty and what each trip showed us in terms of the geological features of the Grand Canyon and the area surrounding the park. We enjoyed meeting the other participants in this small group adventure. We are definitely looking forward to our next Road Scholar trip.

It was a lovely little vacation with reasonable hikes. One could turn around at anytime and not feel pressured to do anything uncomfortable. I recommend reading the books suggested and rereading after the trip. Bruce and Mike were wonderful guides, the food was PLENTIFUL and good. We will do other things with NAU Road Scholars.

Excellent leaders and program. Interesting hikes. Modest but perfectly satisfactory accommodations and meals. I learned a lot about geology and plants.

Truly one of our best vacations! Great leaders and remarkedly cohesive group. We saw the Canyon from views few tourists can see! Also I had opportunity to do things on my own.

This is a wonderful program. The leaders were extremely knowledgeble. The description of this program was accurate in that it stressed hiking and geology. The views seen were spectacular.
