A well-organized trip, with a chance to experiences parts of northern Arizona that aren't accessible to most travelers in the area. High points were the train ride in the Verde River Canyon, the dirt road trip to the bottom of the Grand Canyon on the Hualapai reservation, and seeing the sunset over the Canyon from the Bright Angel Trail. The cultural presentations from our representatives from the Hopi and Hualapai tribes were highly personal--unexpectedly so--and I felt that these sessions were a real privilege. Food and accommodations were adequate, with the Hualapai Lodge being a pleasant surprise. I'd go back there for a frybread taco! Most of the leadership was done by David and Mary Best, who were outstandingly organized, approachable, and made the group feel welcome at all times.

This was my first experience on tour with Road Scholar. Your first expression is lasting and my experience was everything I expected. The guide was knowledgeable and 25yrs of experience. This will not be my last tour and has highly recommended Road Scholar tours to friends and family.

An exceptional experience, extremely well run and led by a very good Co-Ordinator. An outstanding introduction to the Grand Canyon, surrounding area, and the Sedona area. I cannot imagine anyone not being totally enthralled with the experience

Road Scholar Program is an exceptional Educational Program for vacation! Although I went with my mom who is a Senior, I find it enlightening for young families who want to explore and learn scientifically, about the places they have on their Bucket List for life's journey's...I am hooked on Road Scholar, I will be BACK :)

The On the road Sedona Redrock and Grand Canyon program was one of the most enjoyable of our Elderhostle, Road Scholar trips. It was always fun, full of exciting and breathtaking scenery and events. The individual parts of the trip were well planned and informative. What can I say, the trip to the bottom of the Grand Canyon was the highlight of the trip. Walking the last mile to the river was awe inspiring. Riding over the back wheels on the trip back up was an "uplifting experience". I would encourage anyone to thke this unique trip.

This was not my first and I have to say that Road Scholar does a wonderful job with meals, transportation and people!

This was an excellent program and we are glad we attended. Our leaders, Dennis and Paul, were a wealth of knowledge about the various places that we attended. The scenery is spectacular. As noted by others who have attended this program in the past, the accommodations for the last two nights were not satisfactory. The Grand Canyon Caverns Inn is just not acceptable. I do not think it meets Road Scholar standards. While this is a 1950's motel on old Route 66, it has not been maintained. The phones in the rooms did not work and there was virtually no cell phone coverage. When I spoke to the person at the motel office, she said, "these phones have not worked all summer." When we awoke on the first morning, there was a water line break, so no one could take a shower or use the bathrooms. The water line was repaired by evening. Several of our group were attending a RS program for the first time and this is not the way to have a favorable impression about the type of accommodations used by RS. Please view the motel photos that I have posted. One of our evening programs was cancelled because the speaker did not show. No specific explanation was given by Dennis. This was the program entitled Hualapai Cultures and Traditions. Naturally, we were disappointed.

The two speakers and the two guides greatly enhanced my learning and enjoyment. Would do that type of program again in a heartbeat. The first accomodation (Sedona) was accetable, the second (Maswik Lodge Grand Canyon) likewise, the third (Cavern Inn near Peach Springs) was completely unacceptable.

Everything was super except the stay at the Grand Canyon Caverns Inn. This is an old motel that has not been kept up and is nasty. The food served is dumped out of a can. RS needs to find a better place to stay for this part of the trip.

Sedona is beautiful and the Grand Canyon is awe inspiring. But the Crand Canyon Caverns Inn in Peach Springs is a 50's type roadside motel, has not been improved much. Carpet in my room was dirty, ceiling was patched. I hope RS changes that part of the program, perhaps spending more time at the Grand Canyon.

My husband and I had a wonderful time on the Sedona/Grand Canyon trip. This part of the country is very different and very beautiful. The Grand Canyon is awesome!

For those unable to hike the Angel Brights trail this program is very good. The scenery is beautiful and the educational programs are excellent.

The program was outstanding. Our coordinator, Matt Turner, is very knowledgable and continually shared information on geology, natural history, and human history. He is an excellent teacher. The van drivers were also knowledgable and enjoyed sharing thier knowledge - what great stories we heard! The field trips, from the Verde Canyon Railroad ride to the drive down Peach Springs Canyon to the Colorado River, were the centerpieces of the program - each one was interesting, informative and just plain fun. The accomodations and food were good; staying in a 1960's era motel on Historic Route 66 was a hoot!
This was our first Road Scholar trip but, based on this great experience, it will not be our last.

This was the first Road Scholar tour I have been on. I had heard about the program from several friends who highly recomemnded it. I must say I was very impressed with the whole package.
Our tour leader Matt Turner did an excellent job of sharing his knowledge of the area. He never missed an opportunity to teach us about the geology and the history of the area. His love of nature certainly comes through in his presentation. I know Matt worked very hard to make this trip such a joy for all of us and I am very thankful to him.
Road Scholar provided three wonderful presenters, Dr Stan Beus, on Geology, Karen Landis, on the Arizona Cowboy and Sylvia Querta on the Hualapai Indians. All of these presenters gave us a wealth of information about their respective subjects.
I feel Road Scholar with the able assistance of their leaders and presenters gave us a most enjoyable journey into the Southwest.
A special thanks also to our van drivers, John and Tom. They also added to our appreciation of the area with their commentary.
I look forward to another Road Scholar Tour in the future.
