ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
If you’re looking for a more flexible schedule with ample independent time and several meals on your own, then our FLEX learning adventures are made for you.

This was an excellent introduction to the two principal cities of Russia and their cultural riches and heritage. The museums and architectural monuments were extraordinary. The streets, parks, and even subway stations were continually interesting. Our guides (one each for Moscow and Saint Petersburg) were superb—experienced, deeply knowledgeable, communicative, and concerned for the welfare of the group. The hotel accommodations were comfortable and centrally located and provided lavish breakfast buffets. Among the high points of our tour was a stellar performance of Verdi’s La Traviata in the new Mariinsky Theater, conducted by the world-renowned Valery Gergiev. Mid-September was a very good time to visit in terms of temperate weather and absence of large crowds of tourists. This short tour left me wanting to return to Russia for a longer period to revisit museums and to explore many other intriguing sites and areas in and beyond the city centers. Sarah

Both our Moscow and Petersburg tour guides were excellent, and were especially good at pointing out the highlights of notable museums with large collections. The "small group" feature of this program is especially valuable in the museums - you can actually see the works without struggling to see around or over other group members. Only shortcoming for our group was the sad selection of restaurants for Moscow meals. There are many, many reasonably priced and interesting options in Moscow these days, yet we found ourselves in boring venues with lackluster food (fixed menu, no choices) and indifferent servers. Don't be afraid to skip some dinners and strike out on your own!

This was a wonderful trip that far exceeded our expectations! It was our first experience with Road Scholar, but we have already booked another trip, and are planning for a third one. Don't believe you could do better value-wise and complete experience wise than this trip!

Treasures of Russia was an outstanding trip and experience. Great guides, lectures and tours. My first experience with Road
Scholar was very memorable.

Needs more frequent updating. One gets the feeling that much of the information is generic. The tour itself turns out to be better than the website characterized!

I could not have had a comparable experience exploring Russia's history and culture if I had spent twice the time on my own. I believe my money was well-spent and my appreciation of a people presented most of my life as "the enemy" has been transformed. I wish there were a comparable program for our media hungry politicians.

Agree with Martha....this trip was superb. I had no idea that Russia was so intriguing. And our guide was simply superb. I enjoyed all of the food and the beautiful sights we visited as well as the performances of opera and ballet. Great trip (my 22nd)

This trip was a wonderful experience which I recommend to anyone who is interested in Russian art and culture. The tour guide, Violeta, exceeded all expectations and contributed greatly to the high quality of the trip.

Best tour guide imaginable Violetta makes this tour sparkle. Her warmth, encyclopedic knowledge, and boundless enthusiasm are not to be missed.

Five stars less one sparkle for the Russia Treasures tour. We had a great, jam-packed trip with Violetta, herself surely a national treasure. The itinerary was bursting with excellent places to visit and lectures by Violetta and others to bring them all to life. Lots of photo ops -- see my May 2013 posts at postcardsfromsusan.blogspot.com. The one sparkle deduction is for the food, which many of us thought could be better to give us another insight into the Russian culture, but it hardly detracted from a truly outstanding trip. Thanks to all!
