Traveling through Western Newfoundland into Labrador with Tony Oxford was a delight! His musicality added such a wonderful dimension to the trip, and Tony seemed to know everyone along the way as we explored the geology, history, and culture of this area. Even in July you may need a complete set of warm clothing for Labrador's Battle Harbor site; bring layers as advised along with rain gear. There was always an early AM opportunity to get in an early morning walk near at each stop. If you play a musical instrument, bring it if you can; ferry rides across the Belle Isle Strait and kitchen parties will benefit if you are willing to get involved with song and poetry!

We learned a great deal on this tour. A great tour for learning about the social and political history and the geology of the region. When the program says walking 2 miles a day - this is accurate and this can be over uneven ground. It is possible to do more on some days if you choose. As international visitors we found this tour enlightening and great fun.

This isn't an easy trip even in late summer; the loss of the fishery and depopulation of the outports are sobering; and much of the beauty is low-key. But this RS tour is the best way I can imagine to experience the culture and geology of the western outports, the northern peninsula, and the Labrador coast.
