Rim to Shore: Costa Rica multi sport adventure was my first experience with solo travel. I had a wonderful time, and met some terrific people. Our guide (Ignacio Arroyo) was pleasant, funny, informative, accommodating, helpful, and it's obvious he loves Costa Rica and wanted us to love it too! I hope to stay in touch with my great travelling companions, and maybe end up on another adventure together.

This program was especially enjoyable due to the enthusiasm and knowledge of our leader, Jimmy. I loved the smallness of our group, only nine people that become friends shortly after our adventure began.

Excellent program! It exceeded our expectations. Great variety of activities from hikes, white water rafting, zip lining, and dancing. From the description of activities we knew it would be a good vacation, but our guide, Erick Guzman, made it a great experience. Kim & Larry Colwell

This trip gets an "exceeds expectations" rating. Saw beautiful country, experienced new adventures, accomodations were great, food was good, and last but not least, Erick Guzman, our guide, was the best, and Jimmy our driver kept us save every place we went.

A great adventure! Our guide, Ignacio, a trained botanist was gracious, helpful, and amazingly informative.

Just returned from an overwhelmingly wonderful visit to Costa Rica. Such a beautiful place in this world! Such wonderful people! I would highly recommend this trip to EVERYONE who is curious about different flora & fauna, & happily willing to participate in challenging activities to get further into the depths of their jungle! Our U.S. citizens can learn much from their efforts to preserve & appreciate their natural gifts.

Over the 10 days spent in Costa Rica we experienced an assortment of tropical environments, each with unique flora and fauna. Having every last detail cared for by our guide, Erick Guzman (fluent, knowledgeable on all aspects of Costa Rica, its flora and fauna, entertaining and endearing) and van driver Omar, was a wonderful way to travel in this challenging environment. The people in our group were all very pleasant and so much fun to be with. We all felt blessed to be on the same tour and that we were all physically able to keep up with the challenging and busy itinerary, without losing patience with each other. As you can imagine, over 10 days of intense travel we had some interesting conversations and got to know each other very well.

The Costa Rica trip was a perfect adventure for anyone looking to be active and participate in a natural climate setting - our guide was beyond expectations, his knowledge of the area and his ability to see and share the culture of the country was exceptional. The entire trip was just fun, and for bird watchers, I think perfect.

Our Costa Rica multi-sport adventure was a wonderful experience. Our guide was highly experienced and motivated to provide us with the perfect trip. The climate in a rainforest is wet, so prepare for getting wet. If you don't mind getting a little wet, then this is the perfect trip for anyone who wants to see fantastic birds, monkeys, crocodiles, flowers and other beautiful scenery with great housing accommodations. The food was not bad either_I gained 5 pounds.

This trip is for active people that want to have fun with a variety of outdoor activities in an exotic location with excellent food and accommodations, but not have to work hard at it.

Michele from Santa Fe, NM Number of programs attended: 1

This program provided a great opportunity to see both coasts of Costa Rica. Our Leader was excellent and shared many insights into the culture and diversity of Costa Rica. The group participants added to the learning experience as well. I would highly recommend this program to those who enjoy nature and the outdoors.

Just returned from the Rim to Shore trip to Costa Rica. This was my first time solo traveling, and it couldn't have been more delightful. I felt included from the beginning and enjoyed sharing the educational adventures with a great group of people. The blend of lectures, field trips, and active adventures was the perfect recipe for a memorable trip. The food was fresh and delicious including local fruits and vegetables. The guide was exemplary! His knowledge and down-to-earth leadership is unparalleled.

The Rim to Shore experience was all we could have hoped for, with a great balance of fun and learning, challenging and less challenging activities, and a guide who was a delight with his vast knowledge and easy personality.

Connie from West Sacramento, CA Number of programs attended: 2

I enjoyed this adventure very much. I was able to try whitewater rafting, which I had not done before. Seeing the green sea turtle lay her eggs was amazing and the birding was fabulous. Our guide was excellent (very knowledgeable) and helped make this trip really fun. Loved the small group of eight, the conversations and sharing of knowledge. Traveling alone, I felt very included by the group.

Mari from Berkeley, CA Number of programs attended: 1

Excellent guide and activities were varied and very enjoyable. A beautiful country to visit. Great birding. I was well taken care of, great accommodations and food. I loved the small number of participants and their willingness to try new things.

Went on my first Road Scholar trip . Costa Rica multi sport adventure. Wow!mit exceeded my expectations for everything. Very educational, lots of nature, great activity. Very organized. The food was outstanding. The guides were passionate about nature, ecology and quite involved in leading us all. A very good first impression of a Roapd Scholar

We had good activity levels making moderate demands upon our physical condition. Good education about ecology, and Costa Rica's high standards of excellence about preserving our environment. Very good accommodations, and it helped to have two buses--space while on the road.

Barbara from Minneapolis, MN Number of programs attended: 2
Date attended: 02/18/15 - 02/28/15
This trip exceeded our expectations in every way. First, our guide Luis was outstanding--he continually found all sorts of birds, mammals and plants, then waited patiently while we each saw and discussed these "most beautiful" specimens. Group members were welcoming and actively participated in the various activities, including hikes (muddy and dry), dance lessons, kayaking and ziplining. Accommodations were comfortable and representative of each region we visited; healthy food choices were always available. Wonderful experience!

Brandon from Cincinnati, OH Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 02/09/15 - 02/19/15
This was a great trip, well within reasonable physical activity guidelines as published...our group ranged from late 50's to 82 years of age. The "multi-sport" description simply means that kayaking, hiking, rafting, and one morning of zip lining were included...actually a well rounded trip with nature and cultural aspects emphasized as well.

The Costa Rico Multisport program we attended was wonderful. Our tour guide was informative, knowledgeable and was as excited about all the adventures we were on as we were. The wildlife was everywhere and the variety was overwhelming. Our guide spotted all the birds and other wildlife and was completely knowledgeable on all. The food was great the accommodations clean and welcoming. There was no activity that I can say I wasn't amazed by. We have been on many tours, but the balance between travel, events and touring was perfect. The folks on the trip were like-minded and shared our expectations. It was as if we were friends for life. Thanks to all, I greatly enjoyed your company and hope to be in touch again and maybe be able to tour together again. My wife and I will tour again with Road Scholar ( we are looking through thru tour offerings for our next trip now). Bravo Road Scholar

I just came back from the multisport adventure tour in Costa Rica. It was fabulous. We went hiking through beautiful forests, some of the hikes were tough but worth it. We went kayaking and saw many birds, monkees, turtles, and caiman and many beautiful trees and plants. We also went white water rafting which was fun and canoeing. We went swimming in the warm ocean which was great. We were always doing something active and fun and I thought it was planned out perfectly the accomodations were nice. I would highly recommend this for someone looking for an active trip. I loved it!

This trip was interesting and full of new experiences. You could get out of your comfort zone and try many new activities but at a level that was fun and safe. The challenges were well handled and fun!

This program was a true adventure with a great variety of activities. Our guide was very knowledgeable, showing us and identifying all kinds of plants, birds, and other animals throughout the trip. The tours of the chocolate and coffee plantation were excellent. My favorite excursions were kayaking in the rain forest, white water rafting, and sea kayaking which included snorkeling. It was all awesome!

I highly recommend Costa Rica Rim to Shore, multi-sport adventure if you are interested in birds, plants, animals mixed in with some really fun adventures. If you are a fit elder and can "go with the flow"

This multi-sport trip was my introduction to Costa Rica. Tour leader Erick Guzman and driver Rafael Vargas were a superlative team. The varied activities, tours, and lectures kept all of us busy and encouraged by the glory of Costa Rica. This trip was incredible!

I just returned from this program. It met all my expectations and more. I would advise taking a notebook to write down all the names of the birds you see so you can match them to the pictures you take. Our guide, Roger, could spot a bird, a monkey and many more things hidden in trees and help the rest of us find it. If you have any artificial knees or hips or joint distress, hiking sticks are essential for a couple of the more strenuous hikes as are long socks to avoid chaffing in the boots necessary in the wet rainforest. If you are sharing a room with anyone but a spouse, be advised that some of the hotel rooms don't have room for both luggage and people and are very dark. I had a reading light, but needed a flashlight.

We really enjoyed this trip. The size of the group (15) seemed just about right. Luis was an engaging guide who kept the group energized for the next activity. The activity level of moderately challenging is an accurate description. Although we were able to see many different types of flora and fauna, this trip is more about engaging in active sports, and is not a bird watching tour. But if you like to try different activities this is a wonderful adventure.

A wonderful trip. Our guide, Leo, couldn't have been better. He is an avid birder and loved sharing his knowledge of and enthusiasm for Costa Rica's wildlife and plants. He was very thoughtful about arranging activities that were not on the itinerary just because he knew we would enjoy them. He also has a very cute sense of humor. The activities were well suited to the abilities of the participants. Lodging and food were excellent. Expect interesting and like minded traveling companions.

John from Ann Arbor, MI Number of programs attended: 2

This trip was thoroughly enjoyable and exceeded my expectations. Our guide Leo was wonderful - great with logistics, helpful, informative, and fun. It might have been nice to spend less time on a bus, but the bus rides were actually not bad. The scenery was always interesting and often spectacular and we learned a lot en-route. The rest of the trip was even better. We had multiple boat cruises which were great for viewing wildlife and scenery. We engaged in hikes, paddling trips, and other fun activities. The accommodations were good and in amazing locations. I quickly learned never to leave my camera behind, even if just walking from my room to the dining hall as there was no telling what great photo-ops I might encounter. There was a nice balance between scheduled time and free time to explore, photograph, swim in the pools, or hang out with new friends at the waterside bars. I used bug repellent once (in the woods at Tortuguero). We had a couple downpours at Sarapiqui that enhanced the rain forest experience. Used a lot of sun screen. I recommend taking a camera with a good zoom lens for photographing birds, lizards, monkeys and crocodiles. It helped that we could get clothes laundered at Sarapiqui.

Diana from Grand Rapids, MI. number of programs: 2. Dates: 2/24-3/6/14 Terrific trip - no complaints. Even enjoyed being awakened by howling monkeys at 4:00 a.m. Wonderful wild life, great guide (Leo), and interesting and fun traveling companions.

Judith from Montclair, NJ Number of programs attended: 4

This was a wonderful trip and met our every expectation. Our guide Leo was extremely knowledge about birds, and we saw over 60 species. The long bus rides were always broken up with an interesting stop.

Bring hiking boots & collapsible walking poles. Bring plenty of plastic bags for wet garments. Pack a fleece jacket. Bring a bandana. Do not opt for the rubber boots for the hike to the almond tree at Selva Verde. If you really like wash cloths, pack some! Think about taking business cards to pass out to new friends. Bring Pepto Bismo tablets and Imodium. Be prepared to find beans & rice (& hot dogs!) on even breakfast buffets! Have in mind the exchange rate for your money, such as $10 = 5,000 colones.

Our Costa Rica Rim to Shore trip was exceptional. It combined the right amount of activity with the opportunity to experience different parts of the country. Our guide, Leo, was wonderful, very knowledgeable and very interested in providing an outstanding experience for everyone. The participants in our group could not have been nicer. Everyone was very enthusiastic about our experiences and we truly enjoyed each others company.

Donna from Skaneateles, NY Number of programs attended: 3

this is a truly wonderful experience, small group numbers made it easy to meet people and experience it with them. there was always the ability to opt out of an experience we didn't want to do, that made it easier for the group as a whole.
