Road Scholar has thousands of educational adventures to choose from. A good way to narrow down our list is to browse our collection of "Most Popular" programs.
See all of our Most Popular programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

I was equally pleased with the UQTR French Immersion program and plan on returning in the future. Our group of 44 Canadians and Americans were divided into 4 groups after taking the language assessment. I was very pleased with my intermediate class of 9 (3 men and 6 women) and our teacher. Our morning classes ran from 8:30 to 11:30 with a half hour break/"pause". Conversation classes with different teachers were held three afternoons each week. There were many opportunities to use a language lab; use the university library; watch French language movies (with French or English subtitles); and get additional help with a tutor.
This program was also a wonderful vacation. The friendly and helpful staff of UQTR planned a host of activities to help us with learning the French language. Some of my favorites include: an afternoon of Quebecois music by the duo, Moi et La Belle; a day trip to Montreal which included a guided tour of the Archeology Museum and a bus tour of the city with lots of free time built in; a day trip to Quebec City with a guided walking tour, bus tour, Chateau Frontenac tour, with lots of free time for wandering the streets of Vieux Quebec, dining and shopping; a day of hiking (or kayaking or swimming) at the beautiful Parc de la Mauricie; and our final dinner "ensemble"/together at a sugar shack where we learned about the production of maple syrup and had a typical Quebecois dinner. We were serenaded by a Quebecois musician and had the opportunity to learn a typical Quebecois dance.
As with other Road Scholar/Elderhostel programs I have attended, the people in the group were one of the most important highlights of the trip. Thanks especially to Patty, Janet, and Linda for being "bonnes colocataires"!
All in all, a fabulous program!

This program is such a superb value for the money paid. It is so well organized with excellent teachers who are interested in teaching you more than you think you can absorb. One recommendation though for the placement test: we were cautioned to not guess if we did not really know the answer. As a result, some were placed in a class a bit lower than they should have been. Students were given the option to change classes prior to completion of two classes which I failed to do. However, the school officials were very accomodating by placing me in a higher conversation class. I cannot recommend this course more highly.

Accommodations were in a new building with four people sharing an apartment. A big plus: there were two bathrooms to be shared by the four people! There are some towels, a few pots and pans plus some dishes and cutlery, a microwave, coffee pot and toaster. However, the building is not air conditioned. We were told to bring a fan, but it is difficult to bring a large enough fan when traveling by plane. Also, no iron was available and it was not suggested that we bring a travel iron.

Without fail, all school personnel were continually present and always with a smile and eager to help resolve any issues. All activities started exactly on time. I will go again.
