This is a great program. Stephen and Joy are excellent hosts and provide superior food and ambiance. The rides were well planned out and their support along the way was great. As someone who rides a lot it was still fun and people rode road bikes and hybrids and everyone had fun within their ability. If you are interested you should plan on riding from 25-35 miles a day and the routes are well mapped and they provide SAG and mechanical help along the way. It is everyone riding at their own pace which is fun. Some ride fast and others do not but everyone had fun. It is a good work out so get ready by riding up and down some hills.......rolling hills was the best description. The country is beautiful and this is one of the best programs we have been on. It was our 5th Re-Union and Bike Trip, friends of 40 years. We don't know how we can top our adventure of Biking in Paradise, Quebec, Canada next year. It was awesome, lasting memories . We just might have to go back, to bike in Paradise again with more friends. The 386 Gals of Boston

Program 2760, Bicycling: Day Trips to Paradise in Eastern Townships, Quebec, was a terrific Road Scholar program. The tour leaders, who are also the innkeepers, are very professional and knowledgable about bicycling in their area of Quebec and nearby northern Vermont. The accomodations and meals were exceptionally good and all the participants were made to feel welcome. There were always additional miles offered for those who wanted a longer ride. The van was always ready to transport those who wanted a shorter ride. I strongly recommend this for those who want a very enjoyable cycling experience with leaders who are really out to serve.

Have to agree with both Gwen and Glenn. Truly an adventure, and although I am fairly familiar with this part of the world there were new surprises every day. Food and company were both excellent. Some of the cycling was quite challenging but Stephen, Joy and Bob did everything they could to adjust trips to our varying abilities. Wonderful time!

This bike adventure is not to be missed. The scenery is spectacular, the biking is challenging and rewarding, the food is yummy and a group of strangers quickly became friends. This is a great trip if you love to eat and be outdoors!

Outstanding program: Stephen & Joy are perfect hosts; no details left unattended. The meals were uniformly superb and the scenery in mid-September was breath taking. One caveat: the catalog description of "rolling hills" may not be applicable to your area- they were pretty tough, but Stephen and Joy are more than willing, and do, accommodate all levels of bicyclists.

This was an all round great trip. Do it while you can. One participant had actually done it 15 times. One couple was going to come back again next year. We will recommend it to friends.

I would highly recommend this program. Everything about it was wonderful from the well planned cycling routes and en route support, the wonderful hosts/program leaders and their efficient and friendly staff, the most delicious meals, the beautiful Outdoor Lodge, and the interesting evening programs. The name of the program is most apt! This was my first Road Scholar trip and it set the bar very high indeed.

This trip was truly wonderful (a.k.a. "totally awesome, eh?"). I'd never been on a Road Scholar adventure before -- though my parents were Elderhostel afficianadoes (SP?) -- and I was thrilled by the entire package: the superb food and thoughtfully designed daily cycling routes; the warmth, kindness and apparently endless energy of our delightful host and hostess, Stephen and Joy, and their marvellous staff; the stimulating and informative evening lectures/programming; the comfortable lodgings (complete with a soothing pool); and the terrifically interesting fellow cyclists. Like Andria (see her comment below), I had never been on a trip devoted to cycling and wondered if I could handle it. Stephen and Joy were tremendously supportive -- as was the friendly "sag wagon" driver, Bob -- and everything went beautifully! I highly recommend this program.

This experience was fabulous, for start to finish, from venue where we stayed to the scenery, the food, the daily cycle routes, the evening programs and the great care and attention of our hosts, Stephen and Joy. We were a large group and aimable group and that added a great dimension to the experience. I would encourage even people who have never been on an extended bike excursion to think of trying this trip. I did and it was a most wonderful experience that will stay with me forever.

Just returned from a terrific week cycling through the picturesque Eastern Townships and Vermont. I echo Margaret's comments below as our hosts Stephen and Joy hurdled over my expectations with a week of education, exercise and well planned excursions. It did not hurt at all that all cyclists - including the "California 11" were welcoming, interesting and interested in learning about the townships. Une semaine parfaite I will not soon forget.

Having just completed a week of kayaking with Stephen and Joy, I had high expectations for this bicycling week - and they were met. Stephen and Joy rode with us while Bob helped guide us on some of the loveliest back roads imaginable. The rides were doable for those of us with intermediate skill, but were expanded for those who wanted more challenge. Super meals and accommodations, including a swimming pool for cooling off after a day's cycling.

Outstanding and fun program. Leaders are wonderful, food is even better, riding is challenging--be prepared for some very impressive elevation changes. Locals may call this rolling hills---people in Mid-West call them mountains

What a wonderful Cycling in Paradise adventure we had in the Eastern Townships of Quebec and Vermont. This was our first RoadScholar vacation and not our last! The scenery was beautiful and magnificent, the food was all fresh and delicious and I had no problems whatsoever as I am a vegetarian, the Glen Sutton Outdoor Lodge was lovely and much better than any Ritz Carlton anywhere, the evening programs were very interesting and informative, and the opera singing by Jeannette, all were magical moments and memories. The hosts Stephen and Joy, Bob and all of the kitchen staff were professional, helpful and all went out of their way to make this for me one of my best vacations ever! Thank you RoadScholar, Stephen and Joy, Bob, all the kitchen staff for being the best humanity offers! And thank you fellow participants and friends as we shared wonderful times together while cycling in paradise!

This cycling adventure in the Eastern Townships of Quebec was very fabulous. The hosts, Stephen and Joy, were truly wonderful -- extraordinarily generous with their time and accommodated virtually all requests. The lodge was very comfortable and quiet. The food was healthy and delicious. The rides in the area (both in the Eastern Townships and in nearby Vermont)were challenging in spots but the hosts provided support to all guests. The routes were generally on quiet roads with little traffic. The evening lectures and occasional field trips rounded out a wonderful adventure. Though this was my first Road Scholar trip, I will defintely plan to participate in other trips.

This is a challenging bicycle trip through beautiful scenery. The accomodations and food were excellent. I would strongly advise bringing your own bicycle, if possible, as the rental bicycles were not good quality or well maintained.

My first Road Scholar trip 10/7-10/12, 2012 - FANTASTIC! Wondered whether I was up to the biking challenge, but made it... & LOVED it. Met new friends & seems we all had a grand time! Foliage in most areas still at peak as we pedaled by to take in the area's beauty. 'Paradise' indeed a fitting term. Many fond memories of the stops we made at little museums, french pastry and chocolate shops, quaint villages, roadside stories, etc. etc. Outdoor Lodge staff were the BEST - Joy and Stephen, Niels, kitchen staff, etc. Gourmet-class fare with fresh, home-prepared delights, & charmingly-served. Outdoor Lodge ambience warm and welcoming, & to me, the perfect setting. Engaging & entertaining evening learning (& performance by talented staff-member Jeanette - THANK YOU). Cannot say enough about this trip. It's evident that Stephen and Joy love what they do at the Outdoor Lodge, striving to make each guest's experience fun and memorable. Sure worked for me!! :-)

We did this trip on Oct 7, 2012 at the height of the leaf season and it was spectacular. We saw wonderful scenery as we rode the rolling hills of Vermont and southern Quebec. Every meal was a treat with special home cooking and fresh vegetables. Steven and Joy went out of their way to make our stay comfortable and pleasant.

We had a wonderful time on this trip. There was nice weather all week and good fellowship among all the participants. Stephen and Joy were the ideal hosts with their friend Ludger helping us all along the roads. Meals, bag lunches, and snacks were top notch. Some of our little "side trips" will induce memories enough until we can return to the little valley of paradise which is Glen Sutton.

Listening to opera as we ride through the trees and up the hills to the starting point...long vistas, winding roads, rivers, lakes, covered bridges, J mountain; feeding apple bites to those little donkeys with the cross on their back; Mystic chocolate shop; ice cider, the bakery--we grab up the cinnamon rolls; picnics at wineries; flying down hills when they are short and the road climbs ahead; pumping up hills and sometimes walking part of them; braking down the big hill where there does not seem to be a bottom; comraderie in the van, on the road, at the lodge in the morning and at night...pitch dark walk up the hill to the little church where Ginette sings and plays piano; good French coffee in the morning; steel cut oatmeal with fresh berries and maple syrup... The hosts are smart and creative and real and good leaders, they know how to hire and keep just the right good leaders, they take people where they're at and facilitate new experiences My recommendation: a reunion!

Great program. Great hosts. Great biking. Great weather. Great accommodations. Great food.
This was my first Road Scholar trip and it was well planned and executed by thoughtful, knowledgeable inspiring hosts. The locale was superb for biking and the trips were balanced, interesting and adjustable for a range of biking expertise. The food was healthy but still quite delicious and the rooms comfortable and beautifully appointed. My sister and I went together for healthy R&R and it met and far exceeded all my expectations. It was a great trip!

Day Trip to Paradise – what an apt name for this program! Hosts Stephen and Joy are unstinting in their efforts to offer a variety of cycling experiences in the Eastern Townships. Transporting our bikes and us to the top of significant hills to start our day with a glide down; those were super fun! These two really know how to sell the “love of cycling” to us participants. Vermont and Quebec jaunts, nicely complimented each other. There is a balance of cycling (flatlands and hills) and opportunities to stop at local spots of interest enroute. The maps provided daily allowed cyclists to “ride at their own pace” and the “sag wagon” crew met us at meeting points. Optional “add on” distances extended the rides for those up for that challenge. Our rooms were superb (uniquely restored and tastefully decorated), wholesome meals prepared on site were delicious; languishing on the deck outside or in the homey sitting area inside after the rides was delightful. Of the three Road Scholar programs, I’ve attended, this one is tops in my books! Thank you Stephen, Joy and staff.

Just back from Quebec and Vermont. Crossed the border so often I got to know the border agents. It may not have been paradise, but it was close. Every meal was excellent and locally sourced. My room, actually more a suite, in a building a short walk from the main lodge, included a balcony, a swimming pool, and views of the river and the mountains. Rolling backroads, long flats, an occasional nasty climb, and some opportunities to go screaming downhill at Tour de France speeds- well almost. I have been on several bike trips with well known commercial outfitters, and enjoyed them all, but for value, they pale behind this trip. C'est magnifique Lanny from Syracuse, NY

Bienvenue. My first Road Scholar adventure has set a high bar for future programs. This was a perfect fall vacation... Biking the beautiful countryside around Glen Sutton and in northern VT was challenging and glorious. Joy and Stephen were fascinating hosts and their warm spirited staff made us all feel right at home. Every night we returned to Glen Sutton to comfortable accommodations, delicious food, and the wonderful company of our new road scholar friends...a lovely lovey week!

What a fun trip this was! Great views, wonderful hosts, the BEST FOOD & lodging. We loved it! A trip to remember. Hosts made sure we were happy with the routes we took each day. Equipment was in great working order. Never felt abandoned on any trip. Highly recommend this trip!
