This was our first RS trip and, for one of us, the first visit to Italy. We are used to navigating the rest of Europe on our own. Francesca and Domenico were brilliant leaders, helping everyone who needed assistance and setting us all up for being as independent as we wanted to be. RS has indeed found corners of Italy where tourism has made only a light touch (much of this for the good). The commentary on the trip was always intelligent, and it was responsive to the variety of interests in our good natured group. Italy can be "packaged" to show the best (much as the Eately model does this for food in the US and in the old country. RS has found a way to do this that is just as pleasant and rewarding.

This was a fantastic trip. The opportunity to visit the country side, small villages and meet the local people was a once in a lifetime experience. This trip focused on the slow food movement started in Italy and exceeded our expectations.

My first Roads Scholar program and the only thing I can say is AWSOME! It is like touring thru the back door experiencing the culture and food unlike any tourist could do. Loved everything the truffle hunting to the cheese lunch with the sheep herder. Be ready for a full schedule. We were blessed with beautiful weather and wonderful new friends.

Delicious 'slow food' and wine with great tour mates. You get to see and experience things off the beaten track: sheep's milk cheese tasting with the farmer/cheese maker, truffle hunting followed by lunch featuring our truffle bounty, a vineyard tour followed by lunch prepared by the winemaker's sister, mama and nonna. The feasts of Piemontese foods and wines at the slow food restaurants were excellent. Our guide Francesca was extremely knowledgeable about the history and geography of the Piedmont region, as well as the slow food movement. She did a great job keeping her humor and patience as she herded us 'cats'. I recommend this tour.

This was my first tour, as I generally travel solo. It was a wonderful introduction to the tour experience. The activities, truffle hunting, cheesemaking, wine making, and festivals, we're fun and completely interesting. All of the guides who provided us with information at the various venues, were very well versed in their areas of expertise, and very pleasant. Our tour guides, Francesco and Dominico were so wonderful and caring, and facilitating, and gracious. They are models for all tour guides. The only issue that I had was the air travel. The early morning (0630) departures killed me. But that is just me. All together an excellent experience.

This is an excellent introduction to the Slow Food" Movement in Piedmont. We toured a sheep farm, a rice plantation, several wineries, and went truffle hunting with the final culmination at the Annual White Truffle Festival in Alba. Lots of food, wine and great company on this trip!
