From previous reviews, it seems to me that RS has fixed past problems. Louis met us at the airport and kept us organized throughout. Group size was 20 -- just right -- and wonderful listening devices allowed us to hear the guides at all times. Some sites were breathtakingly beautiful, like Sainte Chapelle and Sagrada Familia. Art as a theme throughout the trip was a brilliant idea. I loved feeling both the weight and wonder of European history first hand. I'll never forget this trip.

This is a very active tour - LOTS of stairs and walking. It rained in Paris and we often took the metro but it was sunny in Barcelona and we walked EVERYWHERE. I fell in love with lively, bright and beautiful Barcelona and did a lot of wandering on my own. People on the streets at all hours. Our Guide, Louie, was excellent. Quite a personality - you will remember him!

This program was educational, artistically motivating, breathtakingly beautiful. Having an insight into two historical cities was a wonderful pairing. Our guide, Louis-Gabriel Bideau, did an incredible job with logistics, group cohension ,and went out of his way to foster positive group dynamics. For anyone who loves the arts, this program is amazing.

The very best and most rewarding of any program we have attended.

This is a great program for becoming more familiar with Paris and Barcelona, two beautiful historical cities. There is a variety of activities and you will learn so much about art history and general history. Even if you are already knowledgeable being there makes all the difference.

The Artistic Spirit of Paris and Barcelona was the most stimulating, beautiful, captivating of all the Road Scholar trips in which we have participated. Leaders were outstanding, hotels in superb locations, and all sites chosen worthwhile. Physically active, but relatively relaxed pacing. Highly recommended!

Trips with Elderhostel, Road Scholar, Exploritas. Short report now, but I really want to help RS maintain their excellent record of wonder programs. For this first Paris/Barcelona tour, I think that the small group (24 or less) works well; the places to visit are a good representation of F & S life; the food choices ere amazing (leave out the raw duck, please!) Figueres, Dali and the bullet train make for a wonderful transition. But RS, PLEASE consider the participants and spend your/our money better on the right kind of city travel - I don't care how "fit" one should be, with a group somewhere between 55 and 75 the metro with transfers with 40 stairs either way and warnings of "watch out for thieves" make for excessive, unnecessary walking which makes the whole, long day, tedious - and people start dropping out. Rearrange the sites when necessary; add cabs or small private buses; use handouts for the history and EXPLAIN the transportation system or telephone!, SLOW down - remember if the guides can't understand us, WE can't understand them. DUD of the trip is the fiasco at the airport (other groups DO send someone to meet you!) and the tiny Paris hotel is uncaring and isolated. Fortunately, I love RS, so I'm sure they will improve the October trip as well as they can!

Good program that will be excellent when Road Scholar cleans up issues with logistics, scheduling, poor choice of hotel and lecturer in Paris. Barcelona and Paris are both wonderful cities with so much to see and enjoy -- the "artistic spirit" theme was an interesting way to focus field trips, lectures and events. Lecturer Silvia in Barcelona did an excellent job in helping participants understand the history and culture of Catalonia. Be ready for the challenges of using public transportation (metro and bus) in both cities. You'll miss out on some of the best visits if you're not ready for lots of walking, stairs and moving quickly. As is often the case, the group of fellow participants on this trip were the best!

Come and be amazed in Barcelona. Make sure you are physically fit as there are lots and lots of stairs!
