The Asheville/Biltmore program was outstanding. Active learning in a beautiful setting. Presentations were informative and field trips were stimulating. It was a delight to explore the many historic, economic, cultural and environmental aspects of western North Carolina, Asheville and the Biltmore estate. The program coordinator, Mars Hill Universtiy, and their program leader, Ms. Jane Huffman, did an extraordinary job planning, organizing and executing every aspect of the program to perfection. Lodging and dining at the Bonclarken Conference Center was delightful. Just the right mix for those who like active learning with zero hassles. A must do program. And a great value.

Greatly enjoyed our trip to Asheville. The Biltmore exudes quiet elegance and beauty. Lovely paintings were exhibited, and the grounds, filled with luscious trees and gardens in abundance, and planned and implemented by Olmstead, were lovely. The estate exudes carefully selected furnishings. We have Hearst out in CA, but his castle is dripping with excess and poor taste. In contrast, the Biltmore is much better planned and executed--well worth a tour.

The Biltmore is the main attraction of this tour and it lives up to its billing. The real surprise is the city of Asheville - it's interesting history, great restaurants, and architecture.

We've always wanted to visit the Asheville area based on the many positive comments we've heard over the years, and I feel that doing so through the Road Scholar program provided a much more informative and fulfilling experience than had we done so independently by ourselves.

It was great fun exploring the Vanderbilt mansion - which is what we went for - but learning about the Cradle of Forestry, Thomas Wolfe, and the city of Asheville was an added bonus. The days were well-planned and the accommodations comfortable. We enjoyed the company of our wonderful fellow "scholars" and had a great time.
