A well-paced intro to Costa Rica's natural glories. The lectures & the tours to an organic Pineapple ranch, a coffee plantation, a heart of palm farm, coupled with ample bird & animal watching were educational & pleasureful.Plus we had a most congenial group to enjoy the Ticans. .

This was our first guided travel tour and our first Road Scholar trip. I always enjoyed planning a trip as much as going on a trip. I am now 67 and my husband is 87, We decided it might be a good idea to try a tour at an "easy" pace. This was perfect for us. I had some time to be more active and take walks on my own. He was able to keep up with all the planned events. We loved the companions on our tour. Bright, friendly and well traveled. Road Scholar gave us a great travel experience and we felt every dollar we spent was invested in giving us the best food, lodging and tour guides at this price point. We loved not having to handle our transportation and luggage too. We hope to do another Road Scholar trip in the future.

"At your pace" gave me more time to photograph things, take a second look and absorb more fully.

Even with severe arthritis I was able to do most of the activities on this Costa Rica adventure. It is my favorite of several other Road Scholar trips. Fascinating, educational and with varied locations, I recommend the At Your Pace Costa Rica highly.

Super program, best ever guides. Lots of thoughtful extras especially for an easy program. Beautiful natural beauty, culture and history. Would highly recommend to everyone.

This was my first Road Scholar Tour and first guided multiple-day tour. It was also one of the best vacations of my life. Road Scholar provides a very well organized travel experience. Javier and Alexander were superb guides. They constantly displayed their widespread knowledge of Costa Rica and deep love for their country. Our travel companions added to sharing this most unique experience of natural geographic beauty including amazingly diverse animal and plant life. The education sessions were quite informative including country history and the local farmer and business stories. During optional time I had the most exhilarating zip line experience in the cloud forest on the side of Arenal Volcano. I also was able to have the most robust and fun body surfing experience of my life in the Pacific Ocean at our Punta Leona hotel beach. The food was diverse and tasty, even for one with significant dietary restrictions. I am now having withdrawal challenges from some of the best fresh pineapple and coffee, along with routine of rice and beans. I look forward to our next Road Scholar trip.

This is a very well done look at certain areas of Costa Rica. The activity level is easy, but there is opportunity to add optional tours for those who need more excitement. Fun, informative, and well worth it!

Prose: Excellent for those who are mobility impaired. Guides provided an excellent learning experience. They and the bus driver were especially helpful to those needing assistance. The trip was quite enjoyable and well paced for those needing "easy." CON: Don't believe advise given by phone by RS staff about grab rails in accommodations. Most all had low commodes and no grab rails.

This was a wonderful trip, well planned and well led. Our guides were enthusiastic and confident, the trip went very smoothly. We saw and learned about many different areas of Costa Rica, and enjoyed many demonstrations of local food harvesting, bird watching, plant id, and much more. The activity level was right for most of our less ambulatory travelers, the accommodations very comfortable, and I found the food pleasing every day. My life has definitely been enhanced by my experiences on this trip.

This program is extraordinary as it opened our eyes to the many wonders of Costa Rica. It is an exciting and valuable learning experience particularly if you are interested in learning about ecological sustenance and saving what’s left of earth’s inhabitants. If you are interested in visiting a tropical paradise, this is for you. The guides were superior and the food and accommodations were excellent. We’ve been on 5 Road Scholar trips and this was one of the best. It was easy, fun, informative, and depicts how truly beautiful the Costa Rican rain forest is. Chuck White, Worthington, Ohio

I was a little hesitant about having the energy for a trip of this magnitude but that was never a problem. The trip was well paced, there was a lot of variation in our activities, I never wanted to sit back to relax but looked forward to every day with energy. The activities are well paced and allow for differences among travelers. Our leaders were sensitive to these differences. Not for those who want only luxury hotels and high class service but for those who want to be comfortable as well as learn.

Our trip to Costa Rica with only 10 people in our tour plus Two intelligent guides and one humorous bus driver was one of the very best that my wife and I have yet experienced, and this was my 12th and my wife's approximately 40th!

This is a program (or any program in Costa Rica) that anyone interested in the ecology of our planet should take. Costa Rica is at the center of preservation interests.

I returned from this trip yesterday, 10/13, and I cannot say enough good things about it. We were a group of just 10, with 2 guides and a very fun driver, and every one of us enjoyed the accommodations, the tours, the wonderful fun stuff on the water - boating, alligator cruise, a fun trip in an outrigger, and birds, flora and fauna, so much to see. Go. You won't be sorry. The guides were very helpful and knowledgable. What a trip!!!!

I think our trip to Costa Rica was most successful, I wish I were a lot younger so that I could go on many more Road Scholars tours. I am 88 years old, my husband is 93, and we both feel the same. We were very well looked after in every way and have recommended Road Scholars to all our friends.

John from Gold Canyon, AZ Number of programs attended: 1

This was my first Road Scholar program and I was not disappointed! I had made a port visit to one Costa Rican town while on a cruise ship previously, but this was NO comparison. In ten days, I got to see and experience about all I could ever hope to experience in mesmerizingly beautiful Costa Rica. Our group of 16 was perfectly sized. All participants played well together and were willing to share their very different lives with each other. Each fellow traveler was understanding and helpful. Our trio of leaders - two guides and a bus driver - went above and beyond in providing us a memorable journey. They were supremely knowledgeable, always accessible and friendly, and always fun. Every aspect of our tour, from touchdown at San Jose's airport to our eventual departure, was seamlessly coordinated. We experienced everything from city life to rural farm life; from concrete jungle to rain forest jungle; from nice restaurant fare to down home Costa Rican cooking; from towering volcanoes to crocodile infested estuaries; from continental divide highlands to Pacific beaches esconsced in a multihued sunset; from jungle canopy dwelling howler monkeys to delicate butterflies; from university professor lecturers to the everyday Ticos working hard to build a stronger Costa Rica. (Seriously, there's almost too much to mention.) Our accommodations were generally very nice - hey, everything cannot be perfect all the time! If the only thing I found wrong in ten days of living in paradise is a malfunctioning shower, it must have been a pretty fabulous adventure! If you're wanting zip-lines, scuba diving, back-pack trips, para-sailing, get-down-and-get-dirty experiences and and other like challenges, this isn't for you. If you are searching for a once-in-a-lifetime low key adventure, this could be it.

Costa Rica "AT YOUR OWN PACE" is a wonderful trip. We had two outstanding leader. We moved around central Costa Rica at a leisurely pace with time for field trips to farms, walks in the woods, bird watching and interesting lectures. We experienced many different areas of the country and met many wonderful people. We felt the pace was just right - plenty of strolling, free time and organized activity. I really recommend it!!!

A wonderful trip. It exceeded my expectations. The country, the birding, the environment, the friendly people, and the accommodations and food were all great. Certainly a great value and a totally different experience. Great leaders!

Costa Rica lived up to its reputation as a beautiful country with warm, friendly people. The rain came down in roaring torrents but was considerate enough to do so only at night (at least during our visit in February).

Jane from Mount Laurel, NJ Number of programs attended: 1

Our trip leaders, the wildlife and the people of Costa Rica expanded my heart and mind. I will be forever grateful. Thank you!
