While all of our learning adventures offer extraordinary value, our "Best Value" programs were rated by our participants themselves who thought their dollar went particularly far.
Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

This program was our first international trip and it was wonderful. Nice variety of experiences that included lots of hiking, riding trains & cable cars, eating delicious & local food, visiting museums, churches & monasteries and enjoying the group's company. The leaders were competent and organized. The hotels were clean & their staff was efficient and helpful. We would recommend to hikers who enjoy beautiful scenery. Sally & Rolland

Wonderful program. I experienced Switzerland and its people by walking in the incredible, beautiful Alps. Much more than I expected.

Terrific program. Great variety of travel experiences: rail, bus, gondola, cable car, in addition to plain old walking. No pictures can do justice to the mountains. Every day was different, although most included rain. Bring warm clothes and good rain gear. Trip is a bargain, considering Swiss prices in general and cost of some individual items, such as cable car rides.

I agree with other reviewers that gentle is a misnomer, but Phil, our guide, did a good job of accommodating all our needs, interests and abilities. He helped create a cohesive, happy group. I recommend Hotel Allegra, rather than Best Western, if you want an extra day or two in Zurich. It's cheaper, nicer, and quieter. Katie

This is a good program but be aware this is actually a 5 masquerading as a level 4 rating. As our leader pointed out, there are no gentle paths in Switzerland!

This trip was entertaining and thoroughly enjoyable. Great companions. The program was eclectic, a good variety of food, information, interaction with locals, music and visual arts. Knowledgeable and considerate group leader and local guides.

There were no gentle walking paths in Switzerland for me on this trip, I found two of the walks more like #5 hikes. The group leader was one of the best I have had, the food and rooms were really good.

I forgot to say that I wish there were some easier walks in Europe. This was my maximum limit of effort and there are no others I would be able to do with Road Scholar. I am interested in walking Sicily or Scotland.
