6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

The Amelia and Cumberland Islands program offers the opportunity to explore two islands with parallel, but very different histories. On Amelia Island, we found the historical tours and lectures fascinating. Cumberland Island is unlike any other place we have visited. The natural setting is spectacularly beautiful. Staying at the Greyfield Inn is a delightful step back to elegant living of an earlier time. We travelled in March. Though there were two sunny, mild days, we were very glad to have rain gear, winter jackets, hats, and gloves for much of the trip. Other than climbing in and out of an open pickup for the Cumberland Island tour, we felt that activity level was quite moderate. This was our first Road Scholar trip; we look forward to future travel with Road Scholar.

My husband and I just returned from our delightful trip to Amelia and Cumberland Islands. It was the perfect balance of structured learning opportunities and free time to explore. The program presenters, who were all locals, were informative, with fascinating stories to share. I especially loved Cumberland Island with its wild horses, abundant array of other wildlife, canopies of live oak trees shading the paths that crisscross the island, and deserted beaches protected by huge dunes. The food was delicious and the people were fun! It was our first RS trip but it won't be our last!
