This Road Scholar tour started with the top sights of art and history in cosmopolitan Madrid. Then we visited the "heart" of Spain with Segovia (Aqueduct), Toledo (Cathedral! and Synagogue), Granada (the Alhamabra!), Cordoba (the Great Mosque), and Seville (Alcazar, Flamenco, and more). The Moorish legacy and the ancient Roman legacy were evident. It was a nicely paced adventure, and we stayed in very comfortable, centrally located hotels.

This was a wonderful trip. We saw so much in Madrid and the area. We loved Segovia and the alcazar and especially the beautiful so well preserved aqueduct! The Escorial was amazing. The art work alone was worth the trip, but the monastery and its history and the sights we saw were not to be missed. The Prado and Palacio Real in Madrid and the cathedral and churches associated with them exceeded our expectations. Our Hotel was near the Retiro Park which was so lovely and relaxing. Huge lake and boats for rent. Toledo was magnificent and We did see the most important sights there but I would have enjoyed a little more time. On the 23rd of May we headed off to Granada. What a lovely smaller city.,Our hotel was in the middle of the beautiful city. The fountains at night and the atmosphere of the area was contagious. There is nothing more beautiful than the Alhambra and Generalife there. The gardens were exquisite as was the palace. I so enjoyed the cathedral but loved the chapel where Isabella and Ferninand were entombed. On the way to Seville, we stopped in Cordoba with the most amazing cathedral inside a prexisiting mosque. Our guide, Lola, was outstanding. She gave us so much information and got us to all the important sights upfront. This was not easy in a very packed, although large, attraction. In Seville, again our hotel was in the middle of the area we most wanted to see. The hotel was lovely with rooftop views of the cathedral which were especially lovely at night. We toured the largest gothic cathedral there as well as the alcazar. For me, surprisingly, I loved the ranch where we saw bulls raised mostly for bull fights and where the food and drinks served were outstanding. The group was one of the best parts of the trip. Lovely people who enjoyed the sights and each other.

This is a very good trip. You learn how culturally complex Spain is. Photographers should plan night time excursions to capture the exquisitely illuminated architecture. Magnificent.

We loved Spain and the Spanish people! Seeing and hearing about Spainish history was wonderful. Most of the instructors were great. We had more free time that I wanted in Madrid in particular. Be sure to spend as much time as you can at the Museum of Archaeology which is worth an entire day. It is not included in the program.

As an American, my world view has been shaped and formed by my education and experiences. The Road Scholar tour of Spain broadened and deepened that world view. It provided experiences that helped me better understand who I am as an American and the events that were significant in shaping and honing my idenitity.

My husband and I highly recommend this program. Our leader, Rene Oliva, was outstanding and attentive to all our needs. Our lecturers and guides were all informative as well as entertaining. Our hotels were centrally located, and all the places we visited were beautiful and fascinating. There were so many little pleasures connected to this trip which our information packet could not begin to describe: the orange blossom-scented streets of Cordoba, the Tuna musicians who entertained at dinner, the little Cervantes Museum which we discovered at a rest stop, the fantastic armor collection at the Royal Palace in Madrid, the snow-covered Sierra Nevada Mountains...The list goes on and on.
