While all of our learning adventures offer extraordinary value, our "Best Value" programs were rated by our participants themselves who thought their dollar went particularly far.
Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Truly the trip of a lifetime for me. Seeing the animals so close at hand was very special, but even more special were the 100 or so bird species the guides helped me identify. And this wasn't even a bird trip!

Everything was superb!! Just one of the standouts was Amazing Grace cooking like she did in her "kitchen" at our tented campsite. The whole experience was wonnnnnnderful!!

This program is great - the itinerary, leader Andre Joubert, and on site leaders and guides were all excellent. All in all I would describe it as the experience of a life time, except that I may be tempted to repeat it!

This was an awesome program! It was a wonderful opportunity to see southern African animals up close without the hassle of booking flights, lodges, tours etc and to know that you would be safe at all times.

Amazing trip! Best trip I have ever taken up to this point! Learned so much not only about the animals and birds of the countries, but also the people, their cultures, customs, challenges and achievements. Our guides were terrific for their knowledge, caring concern for our group members, and their passion and love for Africa and the countries we visited. And the group members were wonderful fellow travelers on this journey!

Sensational program. Highlights included: tented safari camp in Moremi was unique and fun, local guides/naturalists at each location were superb, value for dollars spent was exceptional, I'd love to go again.

We saw Victoria Falls. Though it was the dry season and the Zambian side of the falls was thin, Seeing the local for the falls was worth the trip. The Museum in Livingston is well worth the visit. Because it was the dry season the animals tended to congregate at the rivers. Great viewing!

WOW - Just WOW When reading the description of the trip before we booked it seemed wonderful, but soon discovered printed words just cannot capture the beauty of this trip. Everything was so well planned and expertly led by Andre Joubert. So knowledgeable, organized and just a genuinely likable guy. Every local guide wonderful. Having never taken a group tour I was a bit apprehensive. On other trips I have seen tour groups being herded quickly from place to place by a manic guide which did not seen appealing, but this was the complete opposite. Plenty of time every place and after the first couple of days seemed like a group of friends that decided to take a trip together. Most negative part of the trip: coming home

The trip was outstanding. Andre Joubert did an outstanding job of leading our trip--he provided excellent organization, leadership, frequently shared his expertise, and displayed great patience and humor. Our guides at each stop were extremely impressive and did a very good job of sharing their knowledge of the animals and locales with us. I would highly recommend this trip.

This was our first experience with Road Scholar and we were most pleased with it. The only problem is that the bar has been set very high to which to compare future trips!

Our first Road Scholar adventure, but third trip to Africa, so we felt we knew a little about what things to expect. This trip was all we could have hoped for and more. Great adventure, very educational, and best of all just plain fun! The people make the difference of course and Keith Chisnall, Lisa Reed, Mervyn Sparks (Cape Town extention) and various guides/drivers and other staff and local folks we came in contact with were great. (Lisa, we bought two of your books) Three weeks of excitement and 4,000 photos later we will do another Road Scholar adventure for sure.

The flow of the experience (starting with tent camping) was well designed. At first I thought this trip was rather pricey for a vacation, but as it drew to a close I understood this is an incredible value. The lodging and meals have been phenomenal, the animal experiences beyond all expectations, and I have learned so much! Our guide, Lisa, was so exceptional that I cannot say enough good things about her. I expected this to be my one-time-only Africa experience, but now I am considering returning to Botswana and Zambia.

Wow! I loved camping for 3 nights at the beginning, with a campfire and cocktails before dinner. We heard animals at night, learned to know who was walking nearby. I always felt safe. One night I was in a pool at Mfuwe Lodge and heard a lion roaring. We later heard baboons warning as a leopard walked between our bungalows (with guards urging him/her along). I saw our lead guide Benson actually talking with/challenging an owl in the middle of the day at Moremi! We took a boat ride in Chobe and saw an alligator, monitor lizard, hippos, elephants, zebras, and wonderful birds. We had gorgeous sunsets every place we visited. Every day we saw animals for 6-8 hours a day. We ate 3 wonderful meals plus had morning and afternoon tea (or coffee). All of our guides were wonderful. I took many gorgeous photos (leave extra clothes behind, bring your camera and lens). Our visit to a village in Mfuwe was my highlight- going into a local traditional village, meeting the women, men, & children, seeing the women dance- being invited to dance with them!- and a seeing a wonderful play on conservation acted out by the village members. Driving by villages afterward was never the same. This trip felt like it lasted forever. Getting up pre-dawn daily was tough for me- but worth it. I so loved the balance of doing/seeing rather than having lots of talks- our brief talks supported our learning but never slowed down our experience

This adventure was a lifetime dream come true. There were so many things that were great about Botswana and Zambia, but here are a few:
*All of the animals were amazing! We got so close and had great photo opportunities.
*Benson was a TERRIFIC guide; he was a great teacher and so patient.
*Pride of Africa put together an amazing tented experience, safari and a 5-star cuisine (Grace an excellent cook). Johann and Nick were great safari guides and so knowledgeable.
*Thorntree Lodge seemed right out of the past, a beautiful table all set for us, outdoors on the lawn, with china and all. We had a beautiful river on one side of our bungalow, with hippos, and at night, hippos on the lawn in front of our bungalows. Hippos sing all night and what a wonderful sound! I miss it.
*Victoria Falls.....WOW!!
*Mfuwe Lodge....my favorite!! Here's why; Headman Peter, a great leader and a man that I truly feel honered to have met, his tribe, who welcomed us for dancing and a performance, and I held and danced with a beautiful infant; Lubasi Home, an experience beyond words and an important part of my experience in Africa; the local school children as well (I can't imagine most tourists experience local people as we did);the fact that the lodge employs 150 local people and commit to helping local people with education and basic needs. I can't stop thinking about these children and all that I learned here. I would love to go back:-)
*Of course, there are many things that made a lasting impression on me, too numerous to mention and whose significance is still being digested. All in all, I always wanted to go to Africa to see the animals, but it was so much more than looking at the animals. I loved the animals, but I also learned so much about people and culture and the impact of elephants on people who are struggling to feed themselves. I transcended my western culture, which I have never done before.
