The trip to the Treasures of North and South India was an enriching and eye opening experience for both of us. We acknowledge our group leader Anurag who is most knowledgeable, thorough and great on details about the history and rich culture of India and her diversed people. He did not miss any opportunity to demonstrate to us why India is a living museum while at the same time solicitous of everyone's need in our group. He is a true ambassador who truly enhanced our understanding and appreciation of Incredible India! India is such a non-Western, varied culture; but it was all made understandable by our amazing program guide, Shagzil Khan. Much of Indian life can be seen from the bus window; but visits to Indian homes and villages, where we could ask questions, provided much more depth. Educational components (terrific lecture on Gandhi' s philosophy), fun activities (racing through Old Delhi in a bicycle rickshaw), and different surroundings (urban centers, villages, backwaters) gave me a sample of a very diverse country in which I will maintain a new, lifelong interest.

This was such a wonderful trip. Our guide was caring and very, very informative. We had such fabulous adventures. I would go on any other Road Scholar trip again.

Our travel companion John from NY has so accurately portrayed our experience in India that there is no need to repeat. Our guide Shagzil Khan was an exceptional leader, warm personality, extremely knowledgeable - the best! We give this tour at least 5 stars.

For India-philes, this is a trip not to be missed. You get to see it all. However, fearing you won’t read to the end, I’ll say first that the guide for such a tour is of the utmost importance, and ours, Zhagzel Kahn, was totally up to the task. There does not seem to be a relevant subject that he cannot speak to in absorbing detail. Exceptionally well organized, he was able to spontaneously modify the planned itinerary to maximize our experiences based on unexpected circumstances. As a native, he lives the Indian culture, knows the history and politics, and understands the psyche. Great Job!! You will see the fabulous monuments, palaces, mosques, remains of early historical and astronomical sites. Wild and crazy old Delhi and Institutional new Delhi, Agra’s great forts and monuments, colorful Jaipur. And crazy traffic, motorcycles, decorated trucks, bicycle rickshaws, 3 wheeled tuk-tuk taxis (Google India traffic!). Then on to an almost other world of the south, lush vegetation, coconut trees, rubber and tea plantations, rice fields, rivers and canals. Substantial roadside homes with vivid colors interspersed with far more modest homes, and poor tribal dwellings. Then there are an array of other interesting activities and sites; silk weaving, astounding stepwells, temples with intricate carvings of the gods, religious festivals with elephants moving giant monuments on wheels with their trunks, floor mat weavings from coconut shells, authentic dance performances upholding the traditional forms, and a great deal more. The trip ends with two restful days cruising the backwaters of Kerala, peaceful, relaxing, satisfying. One final comment. The trip is rather demanding. A lot of driving in the bus (it’s a BIG country!) Up early, eat and out. After 21 days, it gets a little old and I was ready to come home. But I am very surely glad I went!

The trip to India was truly fascinating. We had a wonderful guide, Shakzil Khan, who was very well informed culturally and historically and gave us many, very understandable and informative talks on Indian culture and history. He was also very well organized and made the trip efficient and very comfortable, almost luxurious. I was also impressed with the efficiency of Road Scholars. They took very good care of me the whole time. Sook McIntyre

My trip to India (North and South) was an adventure in travel beyond my wildest expectations. Not only did we explore the 'famous' monuments of the area we visited, but we did so much more. We walked the markets, traveled backwaters, visited villages, ate in family homes, and even saw a Bollywood movie in a local movie theather. What a great adventure we had!

This was an exceptional adventure providing quality educational information, fun excursions, and varied opportunities to interact with local people of all ages. Though the many problems of the country were not hidden from us and discussed openly, so was its rich history and customs that permiate Indian life. I have a newfound appreciation for the Indian people and their country.
