Snorkeling in Fiji is wonderful. Rainbow Reef at Tavenui is a must to experience. I recommend that you take your own fish ID book and a good snorkel cover-up or wet suit to stay warm and avoid jelly stings. Daku and Paradise resorts offer very pleasant to elegant accommodations. You'll come away with images of both the plight and elegance of coral reefs in the face of current human and climate impacts. You'll also experience the warmth of Fijians and better understand their culture.

One of the best programs we have attended. The Fijian people and program hosts were outstanding. However the foot space on the 747 in economy class is severely limited.

We had a wonderful trip to Fiji. The snorkeling was amazing! The lectures were informative. The other participants were friendly and the group size was perfect. We had beautiful weather. The two places we stayed were a good contrast. The Fijian people were so welcoming.

Do not take this program in the rainy season-- be sure to find out when that is.

The snorkleing cannot be beat--pristine coral and fabulous fish. So wonderful to see the great health of both. Daku resort is like a family and you are included. Fijians are loving and beautiful.

Terrific Marine Biologist lectures and snorkels with you.

The snorkeling was great. Would have been super if we had sunshine. If I did this trip over I would not go this time of year.
We had travel problems and Road Scholar was not there to help. The Emergency Travel number was useless. The participants all had different problems with the same results ,inconvenience and frustration.
The accommodations were above standard. The Fijian people are warm and friendly.

Road Scholar's response:
Due to an airline equipment problem, there was a flight delay on the departure from Fiji. Our emergency Travel Services advisor team worked diligently to rebook passengers on return flights as well as help to provide additional hotel accommodations. Our travel assistance is available 24 hours a day and we strive to resolve all urgent issues.

The overall program is fabulous. We snorkeled rain or shine & it didn't matter. Ability is not an issue as our guides accommodated everyone individually. The reefs were simply amazing!!! If you are timid about the snorkeling, don't be. The rest of the field trips & lectures were oh so interesting. Although the itinerary is preplanned, we moved things around without any problem and even came up with a side trip to Cousteau's on our own. The program has a lot of flexibility. It's a small group which makes for a lot of fun and interaction. The one thing I would improve on is to make it 2 days or so longer to compensate for the travel days. The accomodations were wonderful. True ocean view at both places and the food was quite good. At Daku, some rooms have only an outdoor shower. If that is a problem for you, be sure to request a room with indoor shower. In regard to shopping, we found that American dollars, Fijian dollars or a credit card seemed to work the best. Those with travelers cheques did have some difficulties. Our group leader was a gem. Lori treats everyone like family which helped make for a busy yet relaxed learning experience. When the travel glitches (weather can be a problem) arose, she was right there overseeing everything. I would highly recommend this program but be aware of travel requirements. Check personally on each (3) airline for the baggage weights & rules. The small Air Pacific required that carry on luggage be checked & weighed-important in regard to cameras, medications etc. that you want to keep with you. Take a small day pack instead of a purse. With advance prep things will be just fine.

There is no more beautiful place than Fiji and no nicer people than the Fijians! Then to add to this-- spectactular corals, abundant brightly colored fish, and clear blue water, made this trip a dream of a life time. As a novice snorkler I was put at ease in the water by well-trained snorkleing instructors and my experienced fellow travelers. We snorkled in the rain and in the bright sun. One time, when no sun made visibility low, chips of coconut was used as chum and the fish came right to us. This trip was well worth the cost and I would go again if I could.
