ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

After six hiking trips, I decided to enroll in a Road Scholar historical program that included water ferry, subway, and bus transportation, as well as walking. I was extremely pleased with the quality of this "American Revolution" program. A well balanced mix of lectures and on-site visits to historical sites made the program very effective and educational. The week was well managed by Dorrit Turner, and Charles Bahne provided a knowlegeable narrative each day. He provided us with some personal information about the historical characters that I found to be very interesting. To cap off my comments, only Road Scholar could provide a surprise bit of irony; while we were standing on the site of the "Boston Massacre", the British Prime Minister, David Cameron, came through the site with a police escort. Because of the tinted windows in his SUV, I don't know whether he was wearing a red coat or not. Pat Malloy - San Angelo, TX.

I was very interested in this program; it was thrilling and informative to see the people who were there and places where the actual events which shaped the course of our country took place.

This was our first Road Scholar program too, and it did not disappoint. Charlie has a deep knowledge of the Boston area and its part in the American Revolution, and presented it in a very professional manner. Ron & Jean, the group leaders, were helpful and even taught us to use the Boston public transportation system.

It was fascinating to listen to the historian about the background to the Revolution. Very well presented and informative.

This was my first Road Scholar adventure, and it was great. The leaders, Barbra and Mary, were perfect. They always had our best interest in mind. They managed to take care of such a big group but always found time for us individually. Charles, the instructor, was so knowlegable and delivered his presentations in such an entertaining way. He, along with the group leaders, made it such fun. The accommodations were just fine. The air conditioning went out for 2 days due to a storm, which could have happened anywhere. The staff passed out cold bottles of water, cookies, chips etc. and did their best to make us comfortable. I liked the location. It was a short ferry ride to the hustle and bustle of Boston. I liked that it was tucked away in a quieter place. It was nice to walk out to the wharf in the evening and enjoy a peaceful sunset after an acitve day. When I go back, I will stay at the Constitution Inn again. I also made some wonderful new friends while on the trip. What a nice bonus. Thanks Road Scholar for providing such a wonderful experience. Pat and Dino from Leesburg, VA Number of programs attended: 23 Date attended: 06/24/12-06/29/12 Charles Bahne, our trail guide, and historian, with his expert knowledge and colorful stories made one feel as close to the events and participants as you could get.Group leaders Mary and Barbara were great. The Constitution Inn was an easy walk to Breeds Hill (Bunker Hill battle) and a short ferry ride to downtown Boston that we enjoyed taking. To day is the fourth of July. We have the colonial 13 star flag as in past years flying at our home. This year we have a greater appreciation for those, and the events, who made it possible to fly that flag.

The program was okay. The leaders were helpful and the speakers were very informative. I saw what I went to see. However, the accomodations were not what I expected for Boston. We were not centrally located (we were across the river from Boston in Charlestown) and the hotel was not much more than basic accomodations. The only amenities were access to the YMCA next door. Public transportation was not easily accessed after 8pm. The hotel staff was not particularly friendly or helpful. We had an issue with the air conditioning and the hotel staff seemed irritated when asked about the status of repairs. Bathrooms needed maintenance. I would rather have paid more for the program and had better, and more centrally located, accomodations. The accomodations definitely had an influence on my enjoyment of the program.

The two group leaders and the lecturer were outstandingly good. The Constitution Inn was outstandingly bad. For more details on the hotel, contact me at bob_schmalbach@yahoo.com

Louise from Reno, NV Number of programs attended: 8
Date attended: 09/18/11 - 09/23/11
The lectures were very interesting, providing many details of history that were new to me. A woman, Deborah Sampson, dressed like a man and fought in the war, and was discovered only when wounded and hospitalized, then discharged. Did you know that the Bunker Hill Monument is really on Breeds Hill, not Bunker Hill?
We visited several locations in Boston, Concord and Lexington that made me feel as if I had returned to the 1700s.
I liked this program very much: also nice accommodations and the meals a delight.

Tamara from Duarte, CA Number of programs attended: 2

The Boston Walk Into The Revolution is an excellent program. I found the instructor, Charles Bahne's lectures and field trips extremely educational. Tamara Abhari
