Road Scholar has thousands of educational adventures to choose from. A good way to narrow down our list is to browse our collection of "Most Popular" programs.
See all of our Most Popular programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Any time you are able to have Charifa as a group leader you may count yourself as very lucky. She helped us out on many occasions going beyond reasonable expectations. She was excellent. We have been on about 15 Road Scholar trips and she was the best leader. I enjoyed the city of Aix, the hotel and food. High points were the bird sanctuary, trip to Avignon, vineyard, The Hospice de Beaune and enjoyment of French rural and village life. On the other hand thee were too many trips to churches and the trip to the ranch was a wasted afternoon . In future trips I hope theyl include a trip to the Resistance Museum in Lyon. The boat was excellent. Bring mosquito repellent for the bird sanctuary.

Extremely enjoyable and informative trip. I don't know how Road Scholar finds such great leaders and guides. They made the trip more than could ever be expected.

Generally an excellent program with great accomodations and food. The river boat was modern, clean and excellent in all respects. Great food and wine with lunch and dinner. Drawbacks include WAY TOO MANY CHURCHES and less than interesting stops at a Bull Farm and the excursions in Lyon

excellent program--please feel free to take excerpts from my evaluation where I include details.

I have blogged about this trip at http://notthefamousone.blogspot.com/2011/10/trip-report-france-2011-september-27th.html. This blog is just a quick overview, with a few of my snapshots, but it might be useful to someone who wants to take the trip in the future.

If I went again I would be sure to take some kind of mosquito repellent. I might even take garlic and alfalfa capsules for a week before I left.

Also, I think I would plan my whole wardrobe around washable black as some others did.

Besides the recommended reading, I would want to learn more about European history - especially the Romans and the French Popes.

If you have shellfish allergies - be sure to write down the French name of what you are specifically allergic to. I almost missed out on the salmon because the kitchen staff wasn't sure what "shellfish" meant and they were not going to give me any fish at all until our wonderful guide explained it to them.
