Prague is a beautiful city. It is a step back in time (the 10th to the 14th or 15th centuries) for the most part. The architecture and artwork are marvelous. And there is an abundance of classical music which we enjoy.

Independent Prague: A totally informative and worthwhile experience. Program staff couldn't have been more accommodating!

The independent study option is a fine one (I've taken two) in that the morning lectures and excursions are very helpful in providing a context for further individual exploration in the afternoon and evening.

This is an exceptional program. The hotel is pleasant, clean and well-located for walking or riding the tram. Hotel staff were all professional and helpful, and it was great to be able to purchase concert tickets (and even select seats) at the front desk. The week was planned well, with an excellent combination of lectures and free time. All lecturers were knowledgeable and effective presenters. Although Prague is a city you can easily visit on your own, with many guidebooks devoted to it, the lectures add significant depth to everything you see. The program host was outstanding, both professionally and in his kindness and consideration for participants. He worked hard to minimize costs while maintaining quality for participants who wanted to arrange a side trip to Terezin. It was good to visit Prague in a less-crowded season. (I understand our group experienced unusually pleasant November weather for much of our week.) And the off-season timing allowed this program to waive the single supplement, a great benefit for many participants.

This trip to Prague is a great experience. The location of the hotel was very convenient and the hotel was wonderfully clean and welcoming. The program host was exceptional, very accommodating, interesting and welcoming. I highly recommend the tour to anyone who intends to visit Prague, a truly beautiful city, by the way.

This was a dynamite program and we'd go back in a minute. We felt we barely scratched the surface but were busy all the time. The nice thing was we were able to rest as we needed during the independent hours.

I really enjoyed the Independent Prague program. I learned so much about the Czech Republic! The Hotel Petr was clean and comfortable and convenient for trips to The Center. Our director Tomas Brychta and his assistant Jan were very helpful. One added bonus—I was able to make contact with a distant relative from Prague and because the program was independent we were able to have dinner with them.

My travel to Prague with Road Scholar totally exceeded all of my expectations. The hotel was lovely and very comfortable, and was located in the most convenient location. I just can't say enough about the owner of the hotel and leader of our group Tomas Brychta. Everything was organized beautifully and whatever we needed he was there to provide. It was wonderful to have someone constantly available to ask questions and discuss ideas. He was our local expert in addition to the fabulous experts that were provided. Each one of them blew me away with their experience and depth of knowledge. In the morning we had our lecture and then we were free in the afternoon to explore on our own or with friends. With the information we were provided we were able to look at things in a new and informed way. The first two afternoons an organized tour was provided which helped us learn the lay of the land in Prague and provided examples of architecture discussed in the lecture. The size of the group was lovely ( 24 ) and each had their own focus and reason for being in Prague. Their input and comradeship added so much to my experience. This trip was perfectly suited to my travel style. I loved the quality versus quantity. Rather than rush from one location to another and file in and out of a bus or ship, we were able to have an intimate experience with one city. I loved the quality of the information presented, and appreciated the combination of group and independent activity. Tomas and his assistant Jan were superb, and it was a great way to travel solo. The group was welcoming and friendly and at our 5 PM coffee breaks at the hotel we were able to share our experiences of the day. Prague is a must see and this program is a perfect way to experience all Prague has to offer... Will do another Independent City !

If you want to have a wonderful week in a city where you have so much to see in terms of art, architecture, and music, and you like to have plenty of free time to explore on your own or with fellow travelers you meet, then this Road Scholar Prague trip is for you.

The Hotel Petr in Lesser Town is a good location away from the hustle and bustle yet close enough to walk to the New Town and Old Town. There is a tram 2 blocks away if you don't want to walk and a metro about 4-5 blocks away. Breakfast was available from 7:30 -10:30 and we could all meet from 5-6 pm in the dining area to share coffee/tea/hot chocolate, snack and our adventures of the day.

The country host, Tomas, gave us a Czech history lecture on the last day and is generous in sharing his background under communism and then later his efforts to start a business.

All the staff were most helpful with any questions I had. You can buy concert tickets at the hotel and charge them to your room. Also you can get Tram/Metro tickets at the front desk.

The lectures on art and architecture are interesting and the one on music is the best.

This is a well run and enjoyable program in a city of 1000 spires. You will want to come back since there is much to experience.

I cannot say enough about how wonderful this program and experience was. The accommodations were comfortable and perfectly situated. The coordinators were helpful and knowledgeable. But most of all, the educational presentations were superb and greatly enhanced our appreciation of this beautiful and important city. One aspect not really described in program outline but very critical in my opinion was learning more about the transition to democracy from Communism - very powerful. I want more of this type of program, especially 8 day, city intensive educational experiences.
