The Savannah Tour, our second Road Scholar trip, was a fun and beautiful tour. It was a catalyst for our travel in the area over the next week and a big plus was the association of some fun and interesting fellow travelers.

Savannah History, Mystery, and Music was our FIRST Road Scholar tour. I am sold on RS. I learned so much and made great friends. And it was reasonable, too. The food was great, the sites worth every penny. The speakers and musicians were all top-notch in their field. I bought 3 music CD's and have been enjoying listening to Kim Polote sing Johnny Mercer songs every day since our trip. My husband bought a Jamie Keena music CD from Amazon when we got home of his Americana Series, vol. 1, "The Man on the Flying Trapeze." Sherri Simmons, our RS faculty tour guide, took good care of us and was very knowledgeable. The Oglethorpe Inn was comfortable and in a great location but their cleaning staff was not up to par at all. We are already planning another RS to New Orleans! I've spoken about this wonderful experience to many friends and family and hope they also go on RS tours.

We thoroughly enjoyed our R.S. trip to Savannah and feel we got a lot more out of it than we could possibly have done on our own. We were so lucky once again to have a grand group of people. Everyone mixed around, everyone got along! A bus dropping participants off downtown on the free afternoon would be a wonderful improvement. Our group had quite a few people on their first R.S. experience and they all enjoyed it!

Come to Savannah & enjoy the music & history. Look at the lovely trees & the many squares. Dream of the way things used to be. The south is charming & lovely. Find your way back in time & wonder.

Outstanding program! The balance between free and structured time was perfect. Great lectures, expert guides, exceptional mixture of fun, information and culture. Staying on the outskirts of the city gave us extra time to tour the neighborhoods and make a trip to Tybee Island, and the accommodations were very spacious and comfortable. We loved it!

Rachel Perkins was a wonderful leader, introducing Savannah in an easy-to-understand way for those of us unfamiliar with the planning and colonization of Georgia, and Savannah in particular. "James Oglethorpe" and his explanation of the "Georgia Experiment" were well received. I enjoyed the talents of Kim Polot and the Duckworths singing some Johnny Mercer favorites. And who wouldn't love a trip the Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House and the 1790 Restaurant? Yum! A free afternoon to wander and photograph the squares of the Historic District made the program complete.

Rachel was a terrific leader and was very knowledgeable and helpful. I loved her sense of humor, also. A couple of my favorite programs were the Oglethorpe impersonation by Scott Hodges and the Johnny Mercer Trio.

The guide, Rachel was outstanding -- knowlegeable, & responsive. The Ogelthorpe impersonation was outstanding and I enjoyed all of the trips. The Ogelthorpe Inn would have been entirely satisfactory had it been more convenient. The bus to downtown runs only once per hour and there doesn't seem to be a schedule -- I feel that a 45 minute bus wait followed by a one hour bus ride to town is not OK. I am a bus rider from Seattle, so I didn't mind the ride, only the wait. The catered food from the Fiddler across the street was unsatisfactory to me. Using plastic plates and utensils for every meal is so wasteful for our environment. Our free dinner meal at the Fiddler was OK but the catered meals were not OK for me.

Overall, the programme was very good. I especially appreciated the input from our group leader, Rachel Perkins, and the presentations by Scott Hodges (Oglethorpe) and the Duckworth and Pelote trio.
