This was probably one of our best birding trips ever. Cristalino Jungle Lodge is deservedly world famous, a 50 square mile private reserve that has been saved from the destruction so
prevalent in much of Brazil. With a bird list of 600 possible species there was no need for us to pack our bags and relocate every other day. We had the options of birding a variety of different trails, of birding above the canopy from two different 165 feet tall observation towers, or of traveling on the river looking for birds, reptiles, and mammals.
Our guide, Carlos a young American from Florida, was amazing with his ability to identify birds by sound and then get everyone to see the bird. The lodge and cabins were very nice, and the food was outstanding. It is a very special place. I highly recommend this trip for anyone who loves birding, but probably not for beginners because sometimes it was difficult to spot birds through the foliage. Also allow plenty of time to get a visa.
