Watching the condors, falcons, and hawks in the Colca Canyon, was wonderful and the scenery was spectacular in the canyon and throughout the trip. Jose, our guide, shared his knowledge of the area history, statistics, and flora and fauna in a way that held our interest and expanded our horizons. The visit to the Colca Canyon and to the Sillustani Tombs added insight into pre-Inca history.
I had the feeling that Jose added commentary and activities for us in response to the interest and appreciation expressed by our group. Suasi Island could have been appreciated for it's beauty, alone, but Jose made it educational by taking us on walks and a boat trip where he pointed out and explained various plants and animals (he even discovered birds that were never before documented as seen on the island ... we got a photo of D'Orbigny's Chat-Tyrant).
Also, the trip across the lake, and the visits to the islands, was interesting and enjoyable.
This trip definitely exceeded our expectations.

I think people that take this extension should know:
..The Convent and the Inca Ice Princess were outstanding.
..There was a lot of driving followed by free time in the boonies.
..You really could not see the Condors.
..If you like sitting around, waiting around for the next meal, Suasi Island is great.
..Most of your time will be spent at 10,000 - 12,000 feet. I am in great shape and walking up 10 steps made me gasp for air.
