My choice of the Philadelphia program as my first Road Scholar trip was simply perfect! All my favorite things-- classical music, art, sculpture, flowers (orchids in particular), and new friends with much in common-- made for a wonderful five days. I will be back!

If I hadn't seen the trip advertised in the brochure I would never have known what a wonderful place this city is and all it has to offer. I plan to return to explore it further on my own.

My husband and I enjoyed this trip. We were so glad to have the early tour of the flower show which was outstanding. The trip was well organized the lectures very interesting. We loved Barnes, Brandywine, Philadelphia Orchestra, Curtis Institute, and the Double Tree. This was my second trip with Margaret Biddle. Two years ago I went on an Intergenarational with my grand daughter and her other grandmother. It made me want to see more of Philadelphia. There is still more to see.

This was a wonderful trip, so full of variety--fantastic flower shows and gardens, wonderful museums and a marvelous performance by the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra. Our leader, Fred Vincent, was great and his love for his home city of Philadelphia was infectious, making me want to return and see more of the City of Brotherly Love. Betsy from Athens, Georgia

This was my second time attending this program, so I think I can safely say: 1) The Philadelphia Flower Show is worth the trip; if you can swing it, choose a program that includes early entry to the show. Those 2 hours before the general public is admitted are very, very special. 2) If your trip includes a visit to Wintertur, ride the tram, even if it is a little cold. You will get a splendid view of the entire estate, and even in March some of the early bulbs are blooming! 3) In my opinion, having stayed at both, the Club Quarters hotel has better food than the Doubletree. The rooms in both hotels are equally nice. 4) Although this is a fast paced program, I think all the "stops" are worthwhile, and I would be hard pressed to eliminate any of them. Go. Get your flower fix!

This was a GREAT trip! Our leader and guest speakers were knowledgeable and entertaining and really added to the program. Philadelphia is a very walkable city but taxis are everywhere if you get tired. A MUST for ANY trip to Philly is the READING MARKET! So much ethnic food under one roof. I would highly recommend doing some research on your own if your trip includes any museums/gardens.

We loved this program and would highly recommend it! The Doubletree Hotel was centrally located and a first-class facility. Loved the Philadelphia Flower Show, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Rodin Museum, and the Barnes Museum was the piece-de-resistance. Pixie's lecture on the Barnes was great. My husband said the Philadelphia Orchestra performance in the Kimmel Center was worth the whole trip. Although we had a gloomy weather day,the glory of the Orchid Extravaganza at Longwood Gardens could not help but brighten our day, and then we were thrilled with the glory of Winterthur, topped off with the masterpieces of the Wyeths' art and more at Brandywine River Museum. Lectures on John Bartram and tulip mania will stay with us. We stayed an extra day to see the Liberty Bell, City Hall, and the Mutter Museum, which is filled with anatomical anomalies and and fascinating medical displays.

The Philadelphia Flower Show and art museums were well worth the trip. Nevertheless, I could have done this on my own just as eaily because the tour director served little function. We arrived late due to the closure of SFO for fog. When we arrived no one made any effort to contact us. We had to search the director and tour group down on our own. We also missed a dinner event due to changes on the printed schedule and no one tried to contact us when they were leaving. Director never even knew we were not present, seemed indifferent when we mentioned it. Who needs this?

This is a very outstanding program. As usual, the lecturers are top notched and just about living the history and knowledge. Philadelphia has a lot more going for it than most west of it have knowledge of. The movers and shakers for the development of the arts and architecture are very interesting people. The opportunities to cloth ones self in cultural pursuits are abounding. The history of Philadelphia goes beyond what we learned in the history books.
