We took our 10-yr old grand-daughter to NYC with Road Scholar's Broadway Adventure Program and it was far more than we anticipated. The instructors, coordinators, and real actors were top-notch; daily intergenerational workshop and evening activities and Broadway shows were exceptional. The hotel went out of their way to be welcoming and our experience throughout the week was very good. We would recommend every grandparent explore the possibilities of a Roads Scholar program rather than plan how best to provide a grandchild an exceptional and thought out program on your own. We made lifelong memories together, had many laughs and pure enjoyment on this adventure.

Hanna from L.A., CA Both my granddaughter and myself enjoyed the trip very much. The program was well organized and thought through. We started with a tour of the New Amsterdam theater where we were scheduled to see the musical Aladdin, then we had meetings with various theater professionals involved with the development of a musical (including a meeting with the actor playing Yago in Aladdin and a child actress), then the kids were taught to perform a song from this musical, and then finally we went to see the performance (and it was fantastic!). In addition, we had several guided walks in the theater district, Times Square area, etc. The staff was excellent, and we all learned a lot.

Terrific program for our grand daughter and her grand parents. Everyone was welcomed and considered important. The speakers and field trips were interactive so that we all were involved. I learned so much about Broadway and what it takes to make a show happen.

We spent a wonderful week with our granddaughter exploring the workings of musical theater on Broadway. All of the the children were enthusiastic musical theater buffs (as were their grandparents!). Under the guidance of the exceptional Explore New York staff, they bonded almost immediately which enabled everyone to enjoy the adventure even more. Each activity was more interesting and fun than the last. Nobody could wait for the next session. What fun to enrich everyone's appreciation with all that goes into a musical theater production with visits and lessons from actors, playwrights, dancers, and singers, as well as rehearsals and a short performance of our own. I would give this program a 5 plus!

Our experience was similar to those already posted - Our grand daughter was delighted with her choice as were we. It provided an overview of all the different ways one could be part of theater - not just on stage, but writer, costumes, dancer, etc etc. All the workshops were very well done with information and fun for both grand children and grand parents. Karl and Dan were excellent and really made a difference for the whole trip! We have already recommended it to a friend as we have our other Road Scholar inter-generational trips!

This program is a great introduction to the world of Broadway & what it is like to be in NYC & actually star in a show. Each child gets a chance to participate in a short musical number in the safety of our meeting room lead by former participants of musicals, dancelines & operas. You can solo or just be in the chorus line. In addition, you see the city from the top of the Empire State Bldg. & from the middle of 42nd ST. You meet people who are currently starring in plays & then go to see them on the stage. What a way to bond with your grandchild!!!

My granddaughter and I had great expectations for this trip and the actual experience was better than we ever imagined. The leaders, activities, speakers, etc. were excellent. I am not sure who had a better time--my granddaughter or me. I would definitely give this program a 5 star rating.

This is a five star program! From the accommodations to the leaders to the lectures, field trips, there wasn't a thing to be changed. My granddaughter and I had the time of our lives! Who gets to hang out with an actual child actor, spend a morning with Jafar, and meet Alladin, and dance with a choreographer who was a Rockette, laugh with a playwrite, and learn about how to imagine costumes, then follow that through completion. Then go to the performances! Wowza!!!
