This was our first Road Scholar program and will definitely not be the last. This tour was well-planned and well-executed - both deftly guided by our leader, Jeff Strang. The lectures were highly informative as well as entertaining and the presenters were thoughtful, experienced and responsive to the group's many questions. The variety of food was good and usually required a short walk from either the lecture hall or hotel room. The tour of the Lowell Observatory was fascinating and concluded with the opportunity of looking at the sun through a special telescope. The two nights at the South Rim of Grand Canyon for the Star Party were thrilling for both experienced and beginning astronomers. Over forty astronomers were ready and anxious to help the visitors see through time and space to view the Moon, Saturn, Mercury, double stars, star clusters and a look at the International Space Station as it sped across the sky. It was especially good to walk the rim of the Grand Canyon with a geologist to point out the features of the most beautiful canyon on earth. As a caution, there was a good bit of walking and standing required with no seating available in the telescope buildings and Star Party staging area. Also the rooms at the South Rim did not have air conditioners - not a problem most of the year but we were there during record high temperatures. I would recommend this program to anyone interested in the study of astronomy and geology.

A great, great, great program! Lowell Observatory, Meteor Crater and, of course, the Grand Canyon. Jeffery Strang was a perfect leader on all levels - available, problem-solving, calm, detail oriented, knowledgeable - great geology lecture - and nice. Nadine Barlow gave a terrific lecture on the universe - her entire semester course reduced to 3 fabulous hours. The lecture and views at Lowell were most informative. And, of course, the star gazing - multiple telescopes for multiple views of stars, planets, moon, nebulae etc. Be sure you can get in and out of vans and walk on some uneven pathways for short distances. Full days of activities.
