Reviews, photos and videos for program: Digging for Dinosaurs: The Jurassic Experience

A lifelong fascination with archaeology made this trip especially enjoyable, but even folks who are just looking for an unusual experience will find this interesting. dinosaur bones, petroglyphs and marine fossils are among the things we saw and studied, and all questions were thoroughly and expertly answered by director jessica lippincott and lab manager bill wahl. if you are not hesitant to get dirty, you will get a lot out of this program.

We had a variety of activities including digging on the hill, looking for fossils, working in the lab and viewing petroglyphs. It was like a treasure hunt! The leaders worked to accommodate those who wanted to do different activities versus spending more time digging. We enjoyed ice cream after a sunny afternoon on the hill as well as making a stop at a bookstore/coffee shop after lunch one day. Thermopolis has just one stoplight and a pretty main street with several antique stores and interesting shops. Our hotel is adjacent to the Hot Springs State Park which is a lovely setting for walks along the river or among the travertine pools.

If you have at least a bit of interest in the subject and a willingness to get some dirt under your fingernails, then I highly recommend this program. Every member of the museum staff, from our coordinator Jessica down to the interns, was welcoming, friendly, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic.

I went prepared to dig for four days without uncovering anything. There were bones sticking out of every site waiting to be extracted using brush and pick or hammer and chisel. Also the sites were high on a hill with a deep canyon view.

If there are any teachers out there, you must do this trip, especially if you teach earth science and biology! I guarantee you will learn a lot.
