The YMCA of the Ozarks is a lovely facility located 90 minutes SW of St. Louis. The accommodations, the meals, the staff were all top notch. But our program was slightly different than we read in the Overview or the Program Details on the website. We selected this program for the horseback riding opportunities, and our granddaughters were not disappointed. However, we didn't see the 20' rock wall, the 250' zip line, Pines Peak, a fireworks show nor did we have a mini golf tournament or make a memory scrapbook of the week's highlights. Instead we were offered the opportunity to climb a 50' Alpine Tower and swing on a Giant Swing, and at the Arts & Crafts Center we were offered a candle making or leather project. The trip to Elephant Rocks State Park was a lot of fun and the visit to Caladonia afterward for ice cream was enjoyed by all. Water shoes for the float trip are a MUST - this was not on the list of items to bring. The night hike was over a mile long and footing on those rocks and roots in the dark was more unsafe than fun. Game Night on the final night would have been lots more fun if there had been some creativity pitting the kids vs. the grandparents. Daytime with the staff was great, but the evening programs with the R.S. co-ordinators was rather blah. I would have scored this program higher if the Road Scholar co-ordinator couple had been much more focused and creatively engaged in providing a more outstanding camp experience for the kids and grandparents.
