I loved the program! I hope there is a "Part 2" created for next fall!

This program is wonderful! It is perfect for those who are in pretty good shape and are willing to learn and try something new. I had not ridden in 60 years nor been around a horse in that time because of a bad experience when I was 9 years old. I was apprehensive. However, with the help of the equestrian staff, I was able to get some knowledge and help and was able to feel more comfortable. By the end of the program I was ready for more! The setting was wonderful and waking up every morning to the scene of horses grazing out in the meadow is imprinted on my brain.
The program involves learning about horses and learning how to feed, curry, brush, clean hoofs, saddle and bridle and ride a horse. One has to want to get involved with the process of getting a horse ready to ride. That was really a great learning experience for me! Please be advised, the horses do not walk all the time, so be prepared to go faster than a slow or moderate walk. Some time is spent learning how to have the horse trot. That was fun. The staff in the equestrian program are excellent and very helpful. The Director, Sara, after an interview with each person, makes a personal choice of a horse for each person and that is great. My horse and I were a perfect match except he is better looking that I am!!
The staff at Camp Ondessonk also are very friendly and willing to help out with any need or question. They wanted to make the experience as a whole an excellent one and they did from my perspective. The accommodations are simple but comfortable and each has a private bath. The food was good and there was plenty of it.
Our group was 8 people which was good and allows the two equestrian staff people plenty of time to help each person learn all there is to learn. The trail ride on the final day was awesome!
Overall, this is a 5 Star program. Thanks to Camp Ondessonk for a wonderful introduction to horses and riding! I am ready for the next level!!
