Reviews, photos and videos for program: Canoeing and Hiking in Minnesota's Boundary Waters

I loved this program. A highlight was canoeing amongst the loons and water lilies. Heather and Wade were excellent leaders, and Chris did a great job of coordinating every detail. All three are knowledgable, fascinating people who love this area of Minnesota. The accommodations and meals were excellent given the budget - friendly aspect of this program. I highly recommend it.

If you are looking for something new, unique, & outstanding, try canoeing/hiking in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area near Ely, MN. Even if you have never canoed, I think you would enjoy this adventure of a lifetime. I've been canoeing most of my life, but even those in our group who were first time canoers enjoyed this trip, & were canoeing like pros in no time. The scenery and beauty of the northwoods lakes was awesome. We saw several bald eagles, and canoed up close to lily pads and loons (MN's state bird)...loved hearing their wailing/warbling interesting calls over the water. The sunsets and scenery were incredible & fellow participants, leaders, meals, were simply the best! I can't wait to go back!

Wonderful leaders Heather and Chris. John and Wade were great additions!
Cabins were so much more than we expected...Fall Lake was 50' from our porch! Eagle parents over our heads with babies...so fun to watch them fish then feed the little ones. And a wolf pup running up our road while waiting for the van.....PRICELESS!
The hikes were beautiful, thanks Heather and John! We would still be in the BWCAW if not for Wade's abilities to read the maps and shore line, what a great sport he was to take 5 novices out.
Ely was beautiful in Feb. for dogsledding, but late summer for hiking and canoeing was very nice too.

This was my first Road Scholar trip and I enjoyed it very much. I hiked with a very nice group of people. The hikes were challenging but the views from the overlook were worth it. This was also my first time canoeing and I loved it. It was wonderful experiencing the wilderness from a canoe. I learned so much from our leader and guides about the area, wildflowers, and wildlife. The food was good, we had 2 choices for breakfast and 2 choices for dinner and sack lunches, plenty to fill you up for the day's activities. The cabins were simple but that's what I would expect from a trip in the wilderness. I love the northwoods, this was truly a wonderful trip. Hope you enjoy the photos.
