Excellent hikes in a beautiful region, interesting educational lectures and good entertainment were a part of this trip. The moderately challenging rating is accurate. Be ready to hike up to 6-8 miles for one or two days during the trip. (Shorter options are available.) The food was adequate, as expected for a small town. The Quality Inn motel was disappointing, an old property in need of much better maintenance.
Road Scholar's response:
Hi Linda, thanks for posting a review of the program. Due to quality concerns, we have moved away from the Quality Inn for 2014. Programs are now based at the Holiday Inn Wilcox.

We made this trip in 2011 It was our eighth with Road Scholar - all hiking or active - and we consider it one of best. The leaders were well prepared, well organized and helpful. The days were filled, but well paced. We hiked every day in various terrain with spectacular scenery. Presentations on local human history, natural history, geology, etc were all interesting and well made without excessive detail, but all questions were answered. We enjoyed seeing large flocks of sand hill cranes in a nearby marsh and also flying over the hotel in the morning. Lodging and dining options are limited in a town of this size, but we were very comfortable and well fed. As usual, the group was fun to be with.
