Reviews, photos and videos for program: Bottlenose Dolphin Tracking in Belize

This is a fascinating service program which allows amateurs to help with meaningful research on the Bottlenose Dolphin's habitat and behavior. Dr. Nataly Castelblanco taught us how to observe the dolphins and how to record relevant data. She is an experienced Marine Mammal Biologist who loves her work and is truly dedicated to the well-being of the Bottlenose Dolphin. After Dr. Castelblanco photographed the animals from the boat, our group recorded GPS data; water temperature, turbidity, and depth; and, wind speed. The staff at the Oceanic Society Belize Field Station, our home for eight nights, took good care of us with nutritious food and services. The quarters were rustic but entirely adequate for our purposes.

The Bottlenose Dolphin tracking program is a wonderful program. Learning about the dolphins, locating them and working as a team to record data was a fulfilling experience. Our trip to the Blue Hole and Half Moon Caye to snorkel and see the Red-footed Booby colony was a great play day. Our leader, Dr. Nataly Castelblanco, is warm and extremely knowledgable. The staff of the research station is very accomodating. The food was great and I especially enjoyed the opportunity to have some local dishes.

The dolphin research program is fascinating and highly rewarding educationally. The instructor and the entire staff of the field station are outstandingly friendly and accommodating to the needs of participants. The facilities are more primitive than those in typical Road Scholar programs, but they are adequate and indeed about all that can be expected for a remote atoll that must provide for its own water and power.

This program is not for those who are looking for a resort-type vacation in Belize, but if you want to learn about dolphins and you don't mind roughing it, I highly recommend this program. The staff are wonderful.
