This program offers a great mixture of folk music and dancing. The leader has a great sense of humor and the Cumberland Lake region is beautiful to experience.I loved all the dulcimer music.

Fun and educational but needs a little more variety. Leader, John Tierney,is good. In addition to leading, he mixes well with the participants and is naturally funny, sings, and plays the auto-harp. Ann MacFie, his Tonto, is a diminutive folk singer, folk music historian, dulcimer artist, and just a great person. The program follows the same format each day:folk music and folk dancing in the morning, an educational talk and short walk in the afternoon followed by dulcimer lessons for those interested. I found everything interesting but there could have been a bit more variety and I would have liked more about Eastern Kentucky besides Jean Ritchie and her music. The ice cream cones in Jabez are only $1.00!

The program as explained by Road Scholar was accurate. The 4-H Center is remote, but the directions as followed were very good. Hikes (optional) to see Lake Cumberland and to the 'Jabez Mall' were excellent. I liked the dulcimer music and the guitar music. We had sing-alongs as well as solos by the dulcimer/guitar player. She did well with the folk music - sounded like folk singer (which she was!) We also had a presentation on 'natural remedies' that was excellent. I definitely learned new uses for items that we use every day and some that we do not use at all. All in all it was an excellent program at a remote, quiet site. We could enjoy nature.

What fun! I was immersed in folk music, even dulcimer playing, square and line dancing daily, optional walks, crafts, and story-telling. A very relaxing and down home experience. Good food, too.

This program was a charming and informative adventure for my husband and myself. We learned so much about the area and especially loved the music and dancing every day.

This was a wonderful program with great food and location. The instructors were wonderful and full of fun and knowledge. This was my first Road scholar program and I fully intend to go to many more. The other participants were very congenial and wonderfully interesting to be around as we represented many parts of the country.

A very enjoyable program in an impressive and remote location, with charismatic directors and instructors; all served up with great food and hard working staff. This program is a needed "tonic" for the folkways of Appalachia!
