If you do no other, go to Natchez! It is rich in beauty, culture and history. Be sure to stop at the "Malt Shop"

Natchez rolls out the red carpet for this holiday trip! Every speaker was top notch - each was well prepared, well informed and presented their material quite professionally. I could have listened to them for hours. The home tour was great and really gave us a taste of the history and hospitality of the area. A favorite of all the Road Scholars was the choir - The Hallelujah Chorus really rocked! The hotel was fantastic and the Road Scholar staff was awesome. Note: I traveled with 7 other ladies & we occupied 4 rooms. I was the only person that requested a refrigerator in my room, but mine was the only 1 of the 4 that had no refrigerator. My friends shared so I did not ask the hotel to add one to my room. The only slightly negative comment is regarding the food. It seems a nationwide idea that to accommodate a diabetic diet you simply offer sugar-free dessert. We were served baked cornish game hen at one meal & baked catfish at another which were good options, but another meal featured pork drenched in gravy served over rice which does not work at all for diabetics. The salads were all excellent but were served already covered with dressings. I do not think it is the responsibility of Road Scholar staff to know the diabetic diet - however, all food service folks should be aware that the diabetic diet should offer baked, broiled, or grilled meat, salads with dressing on the side (low cal dressing is preferred) and steamed, grilled, or roasted non-starchy vegetables.

Great way to get in the Christmas Spirit! Natchez showed off in a most positive way. Excellent introduction to life along the Mississippi River during the antebellum days with trips to gorgeous homes. Wonderful variety of opportunities to be part of present day Natchez through good assortment of local music, theatre events, and home tours.
