Reviews, photos and videos for program: Woodworking: Decoy Carving Like the Old Masters

Rich Smoker has a gift which is bird carving and the willingness and personal skills to share it others. His participatory humor and stories are a help along the way before the block of wood even becomes to look like a bird. Once the eyes are set and the colors laid on, the end bird is only one product of an enjoyable experience. This was only my second class with Rich and I hope there will be more occasions before my hands become too unsteady to paint straight lines and curved feathers or use knives for cutting wood rather than myself. Beyond that, the service setting in Chrisfield MD was close knit between food, class and sleep, the carving group congenial and enjoyable to make it a wonderful experience and memory.

This was my first Road Scholar program. Rich Smoker is an outstanding instructor, with a great sense of humor. He made the experience valuable, with great tips and help. The food was outstanding and the other participants were a joy to be around. I intend to take more workshops with Rich Smoker.

This is a special course - for those who want to make by hand, a decoy from a block of wood, with the best instructor for decoy carving, Rich Smoker. You will be glad you joined in with new friends, and make your own new duck!

We have attended many of Rich Smoker's classes. Every one offers something new and different. He is an excellent instructor. It is a great experience. As mentioned in another comment, everyone comes away with a finished product. Jan and Jim Heins

Try carving, painting - it's great fun. With Rich Smoker's instructions and help, you will leave with a completed decoy to show off to your friends. And you might just sign up for the next class before you leave and encourage your friends to sign up too!
