Road Scholar
Program #14870RJ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
While all of our learning adventures offer extraordinary value, our "Best Value" programs were rated by our participants themselves who thought their dollar went particularly far.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

I realize that I did not comment on Lincoln Center. It was a thrill to attend world-class performances in music, opera and drama, all presented in various venues in Lincoln Center. Our instructors prepared us for each performance ,including background of the artists and history of the work, and the next day discussed with us what we had heard and seen. This experience gave us an understanding that we would not

Bridget from L'Anse, Mi. I was not sure what to expect on this first RS program, traveling alone from a rural area to NY. The staff was helpful, kind, funny and well organized. The lectures were inspiring while they challenged you to learn more about the arts. The charming Daniel Egan engaged the group in interesting, lively discussions about the programs attended, which were all amazing. Rating it from a scale of 1 to 10, without a doubt it is a 10. As much as I enjoyed the programs, lectures and schedule the people attending from many parts of the country were equally kind, interesting and fun to be with, I thank them all as well for making this trip so completely enjoyable. I will indeed do another RS program.

Just wanted to flag the ACT ONE review in 4/18 The New York Times Weekend Arts section -- not raves, but overall quite positive. And "our son" Santini received high marks. Bravo, Santini!

William from Fredericksbrg, VA Number of programs attended: 13

No matter what your interests in the arts, you will enjoy this program. It is timely and comprehensive. I recommend without qualification that you enroll and know that you will enjoy your time in New York City.

Program was excellent, speakers well chosen and expert in their fields, participants delightful. Kudos to our coordinator Angela, who could not have been more helpful and understanding and Daniel Egan, whose presentations and guests made the program so meaningful.

Robert from Walpole, ME Number of programs attended: 8

All first rate, the enthusiasm of the guest lecturers and RS staff was inspiring and rekindled our interest and commitment to the Arts.

Road Scholar performing arts programs are excellent, educational, and the best way to get a taste of New York and its wonderful cultural activities.

If you love what New York has to offer in the way of the arts- don't miss this opportunity!

Deborah from Broomfield, CO Number of programs attended: 6

Stephen from Cleveland, OH Number of programs attended: 7
Date attended: 01/19/14 - 01/24/14
I had high expectations for this program and they were exceeded!

Jean from Pittsburgh, PA Number of programs attended: 7
Date attended: 03/17/13 - 03/22/13
I enrolled in this program thinking it was a good opportunity to enjoy three performances and see a little of New York on the side--by playing hooky from some of the before and after sessions. But after the initial session with Daniel Egan and others I quickly realized that this sort of "enrichment" was invaluable and added greatly to the overall experience. It was also quite interesting to hear the various reactions of other participants

Edward from Findlay, OH Number of programs attended: 3
Date attended: 03/17/13 - 03/22/13
This NYC Road Scholar Program I participate in encouraged me to expand my world view of several fine arts experiences. Some of my long standing thoughts were challenged as they should have been ... YEA! I want to be pushed outside of my several comfort zones with gentle nudging. At 75, I need this kind of stimulation in order to keep my mind, body and spirit active and as positive as possible. I do not want to become a "grumpy old man" who is too set in his ways of thinking. Yes, I need exciting challenges; this program did that for me for five days!

Mary from Advance, NC Number of programs attended: 11
Date attended: 02/03/13 - 02/08/13
An excellent glimpse into the world of opera, ballet, and symphony with fascinating lecturer/performers and attendance at concerts in the premier concert halls of New York City.

Ann from Charleston, SC Number of programs attended: 14
Date attended: 02/03/13 - 02/08/13
Wonderful program, great speakers and fun coordinators added up to another great NYC RS program. this is an annual must for all interested in the ARTS - Met, NY Philharmonic and NYC Ballet plus time for Wed theater/opera/whatever in the Big Apple. Sr Metro passes allow one to travel anywhere easily and inexpensively. go for it.

Edna from Los Angeles, CA Number of programs attended: 6
Date attended: 02/03/13 - 02/08/13
Amazing 5 days! And I am a multi-NYC visitor. Rigoletto! Ballanchine! Brahms! And a ballerina, singer, cellist, composer etc. as speakers. Back stage at the met - with chat with wig maker and close up view of Rigoletto props! Great staff people. A real 'can do' group. And, of course, the usual interesting RS fellow travellers!

The Lincoln Center program was amazing! The Road Scholar approach made world-class opera, drama and orchestra truly accessible. The back-stage tour of the Metropolitan Opera House and presentations by symphony conductors, Broadway actors and behind-the-scene professionals plus New York City itself made this an outstanding experience.
